Howling at the Taurus Full Moon

Image
--> Today’s Full Moon is between the Sun at around 6 degrees Scorpio and the Moon opposite in Taurus. Taurus is mother earth, the Great Mother, representing  harvest, fertility, abundance, sensuality. She pulls us down to earth and helps us connect to our roots. Taurus nurtures. Scorpio takes us to the edge, to our depths, to our fears, our sex, our death, our taboos and our obsessions. Scorpio transforms. Full Moons represent polarity and tension between the unconscious (Moon) and conscious (Sun). At this Full Moon we will be pulled between our need for safety and nurturing and our need to transform. The existing polarity is even more pronounced due to the added oppositions between Venus/Uranus and Mars/Jupiter. This is intense, feisty, testy energy that may erupt in flare-ups and stand offs, or it could energize dynamic expression in a variety of ways.   It all depends on how we use it. The New Moon two weeks ago in Libra highlighted th...

It's all in the Neurons

Image
--> Mars in Sagittarius is moving into an exact opposition to Jupiter in Gemini. This is about aggressive beliefs, blustery ideas and feeling absolutely sure we are   “right’.  In keeping with the strong Jupiter and Sagittarius emphasis right now, today's post is about the science and philosophy of belief.   I just watched an interesting video (link at bottom of page) about the neurons in our brains and how they form patterns of thought and behaviour.   Apparently, it is the very nature of the brain’s left hemisphere to label and box things in a linear, rational fashion. This side of our brain has a drawer for everything we experience; it needs to define things very specifically and it is hard-wired to do that. When we are in left brain mode, it is much more difficult to receive new information that challenges those logically defined set of files, drawers etc . Because the left brain remains an inherently closed system that has been p...

New Moon in the sign of Love (Libra)

Image
-->  Today’s New Moon kick starts a fresh energy cycle and highlights the next phase of our emotional development. Moon cycles remind us of the eternal circle of life, always arriving back from where we came, only to move forward again. Round and round the circle we go… dancing, dancing, to and fro…. A New Moon is a Sun Moon conjunction, where the Masculine (Sun) combines with the Moon (feminine) to bring about an   alchemical union called the ‘conjunctio,’ or “Sacred Marriage”.   With the merging together of these Yin and Yang energies, all of life is balanced along the negative/positive axis, which is a source of great energy.  The new energy  born of this union ripples out into our lives, carrying our intentions  forward.  In the sign of Libra, connections with others will be activated, as the New Moon brings a surge in the 'urge to merge… ' A benevolent aspect from Jupiter brings expansion and joy, creating the po...

The Times They Are a Changing

Image
--> Here in Canada it’s Thanksgiving Weekend.  The recent Harvest Moon marked the gathering in at this time of year as we prepare (in the northern hemisphere) for the coming winter.  Tomorrow or Monday families gather for turkey (or tofu) dinner and good company, to express our Thanks for each other and for all the good stuff in our lives. We celebrate all we have and give thanks for the earths bounty.   Happy Thanksgiving from Canada. Astrologically, things are a movin’ and a shakin’. If you have been feeling bored or blocked, or just plain frustrated by how slow things have been all year, you may have noticed that finally things are moving right along. The first half of the year many retrograde planets caused that feeling of being held back or stymied. Plans were put on hold; agreements re examined   and relationships went though an overhaul. Slowly things have been shifting forward and the recent repeat of an exact Pluto Uranus...

Full Moon in Aries

Image
-->  This Saturday we have a Full Moon in fiery Aries. Last week we reached the Autumn Equinox, the moment where night and day were in equal measure. This marks a turning point in the year, a pause before we start to move inward toward the darker months (in the northern hemisphere).   A Full Moon is the opposition of Moon and Sun, of Yin and Yang, and when in Aries and Libra, it highlights and amplifies the need for balance   represented by the Equinox.   As the Sun moves through Libra (sign of the scales) it calls us to find harmony and balance in our lives, and puts us face to face with the reality of self (Aries) and other (Libra).     In the beginning there was One, one became Two, two became the Many. At this time of year, we assess where we are and who we are with, as well as prepare our plan of action for the coming winter (or summer down under) Libras message is: find the middle point ; see...

New Moon in Virgo: It's all in the Details

Image
--> There is a distinct chill in the night air these days and the earlier and earlier sunsets signal immanent seasonal change coming at the Autumn Equinox on Sept 20 th . The resident black squirrel in my back yard is busy digging up all the flowerbeds to store his winter food (much to the chagrin of my housemate) He’s got his Virgo priorities in hand (or paw hehe). Tomorrow ‘s New Moon sets the tone of this next monthly cycle as Sun and Moon sit together at 23 degrees Virgo, joining Mercury, ruler of Virgo. This very concentrated and pure Virgo energy  brings a strong mental focus on whatever intentions we put out at this time. Those wishes or intentions will start to come to fruition at the next Full Moon, like seeds planted in fresh soil. Earth sign Virgo is pragmatic, meticulous, orderly, health conscious, and always of service. A fussy perfectionist, she is also highly self- critical and can be picky to the point of obsession. We can use this energy...

Full Moon in Pisces

Image
It’s Full Moon time again again! .            This one is called a ‘Blue Moon’. Every now and then, there are two Full Moons in the same month. It is even more unusual because it’s the second one in 2012 . No blue colour though… the expression 'once in a blue moon' is used to refer to an event that occurs infrequently. Friday’s Full Moon in Pisces is also kind of special because the ruler of Virgo (Mercury) will be in Virgo and the ruler of Pisces (Neptune) will be in Pisces.   Each sign is amplified by its own ruler residing there. And they are opposite signs. So the strong polarity that already exists at a Full Moon will be even more so at this time. We will be pulled between the logical and mystical poles of our being. The Moon in intuitive Pisces stimulates our imagination and our dreams; Pisces wants to carry us across the mystic veils into a world beyond, activating the dee...
