The New Moon/Dark Moon today (Monday Feb 4)) begins a new lunar cycle -  occurring on the exact  halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.  Imbolc/Candlemass/ Brigid's Day is called a cross quarter day, and stands as a significant signpost in our yearly journey from darkness to light.   Just six weeks to go folks!!      On  Groundhog Day in North America  (Feb 2nd) if the groundhog sees its shadow,  there will apparently be another six weeks of winter (the spring equinox).  Now we know where that six weeks comes from! Whatever you call it – this is a good day to light a candle and pray for spring!!   Brigid is the Celtic goddess of the hearth fire. While groundhogs and humans alike await those warming winds - we light a candle to keep away the dark - and  sing songs of hope and longing.
