Drink from the Well

Last week we had a dynamic start to the new astrological year with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Uranus lining up in Aries:

The intentions we put out at this New Moon have so much ability to manifest its almost scary.”

This was back-grounded by the building tension of the Pluto/Uranus Square, and stabilized at the same time by a Grand Trine in earth plus the now fading but very lovely Venus/Jupiter conjunction. That sweet combo is separating now but has just been activated one last time by the Moon in Taurus.

The earth trine is still in place with Mars, Pluto and Jupiter connecting to help us actualize and make concrete our intentions and plans. That is if Mars or Mercury retrograde don’t manage to scupper those attempts.

Meanwhile, this coming Thurs and Friday we will get a kick start to the Uranus Pluto showdown when the Sun in Aries moves into exact square with  Pluto,  then the next day hits the spot Uranus occupies, this while both are simultaneously squared by the Moon in Cancer.

A square is a tense 90-degree angle between planets which causes difficulty and friction between their respective energies. Three connecting squares create what looks like a T formation, while four is a Grand Cross/square.

This ‘T-square’ repeats the extreme tension of the repeating Cardinal Grand Cross   (click link to go to post) of last year , except without Saturn, which has now moved further on in Libra. That also makes the planets in  Aries the focus of the T-square.

What this means is that, despite several retrograde planets holding the energy back somewhat, things are about to take a jump in intensity.

The Moon in highly emotional Cancer brings powerful and sometimes defensive feelings into the mix, while Uranus’ rebellious and revolutionary nature is amplified by Pluto, who is ruthlessly tearing down/changing all things Capricorn (authority systems, structures, material stuff). Power struggles may ensue.

If you have planets in any early degrees of Capricorn, Cancer or Aries you may want to put on your helmet and prepare for some sort of fallout. Or falling out.

Because the tension is focused on the Aries point, where the personal becomes political, we may see some sort of manifestation of this tension in world affairs. I am not a political writer…so I would recommend you go to Eric Francis  at Planet Waves  for some astute and savvy interpretations of how things will be heating up on the global stage.

Meanwhile, in the midst of this ruckus, Mercury, planet of communication and mental processes, has slipped back into watery Pisces, bringing a temporarily cooling balm to these troubled waters.

Aries is the sign of the warrior/hero/ine. It’s ruler Mars is the god of war.  Both Mars and Aries show us how to harness and focus our will and go after what we desire. Even with Mars retrograde, these current combinations create a lot of fiery, unstable energy ready to ignite at any time.

Pisces, on the other hand, is about softness and sacrifice … and higher love. It shows us where we need to willingly surrender for the highest good. In the extreme, Pisces can be martyrs or escapists. At their best, a Piscean creates art poetry or music to express their inner connection to the music of the spheres, and reaches out to others through deep compassion for their suffering.

When Mercury is backward, our mental focus turns inward, and in Pisces, seeks solace and inspiration within.  The fierce, fiery Aries mentality  morphs into a gentle spiritual warrior who’s task is  removing personal barriers to turning inward.  Often we discover what blocks us is our own defensive armour.

Pisces lack of boundaries can feel scary if we normally rely on that rigid armour to protect us. Yet what are we protecting ourselves from? That is what we need to examine right now.

“Another obstacle to our receptivity can be our tendency to believe that we have to act aggressively in order to achieve our desired goal. This can cause us to become mono-focused and to fail to see, and be open to, opportunities on the periphery of our vision. So becoming receptive involves a softening of our defenses and a willingness to remain open to possibilities outside our immediate realm of vision… it means first looking within ourselves to see where we are shut down, and second, not getting too fixated on where we might find the love we want. In this way, we become more open as individuals and more expansive in terms of what we see as possible.”

Mercury retrograde in Pisces is about listening to that inner voice that whispers softly inside. This requires some quiet and solitude to tune into our inner self.  If we take the time to do so, then despite the usual computer glitches and lost emails etc, this Mercury retrograde can be a blessing...  as it helps us reconnect to our intuitive side.

In the next few days, if any tension or friction causes you unrest, take your queue from Mercury’s retreat into  Pisces to bath in still waters and replenish /refresh your inner resources…  before heading back out  into the fray.

And remember, even in the midst of upheaval and change, something remains intact...within.

        The town may be changed,
        The people may change,
But the well cannot be changed.
        It neither decreases nor increases.
They come and go and draw from the well.

A Spring Re- awakening

This coming Tues March 20th is the Spring Equinox … the midpoint between the winter and summer solstices, when day and night are equal to each other all over the globe. It's  the first day of spring. Yippee!

In the northern hemisphere, where I live, this is the time when everything begins anew and there is a powerful impetus for forward motion. To add some juice to that impetus, this year Uranus is sitting in the early degrees of Aries, and Mercury is there (albeit going backward) as well.

Two days after the Spring Equinox we have the Sun/Moon conjunction which is the New Moon. This combination will join Mercury and Uranus around what is called the Aries point, which is a significant and highly charged spot on the zodiac wheel.

Right now  Mars is retrograde in Virgo (details, organization and health), Saturn is retrograde in Libra (relationships) and now Mercury  going backward in Aries, the sign of initiative and forward motion (ruled by Mars, which is backward in Virgo, which is ruled by Mercury). This is called mutual reception (when two planets are in each others signs) and thus has particular emphasis. Retrogrades make us go back over things.

Now remember (as if you could forget) that this is 2012. The year it is all supposed to end. Or start. Or something. The Mayan calendar ends in Dec 21(supposedly) as the Sun is crosses the galactic center’s gravitational field (around which our whole universe is centered and which the Sun orbits (and us with it as we orbit the Sun)

The cycles of the Mayan calendar are based on this crossing point, and without going into it all in detail, that is why we are supposedly at some really big moment in earth’s history. The Sun crossing over this area could apparently have significant energetic and even physical impact on our planet, and theories abound about what that could be … from total annihilation to total transformation/enlightenment etc

Another big deal of this year is the exact square between Pluto and Uranus, which is like the squaring off of two titans in some gigantic boxing ring. The pressure is building as they sit in their respective corners.  Pluto = power issues, crisis, destruction, death, transformation, Uranus = sudden awakenings, flashes of brilliance, as well as rebellion and revolution; especially when squared with Pluto (as we are already seeing all over the world)

Ever since the winter solstice, that sense of pause, of being held back in some way, due to these retrograde planets, has been building.  I have used the metaphor of an archer pulling back his/her bow and holding the tension  until the right moment for release.

It has therefore been advisable to go slow, and be cautious and careful as you go back over whatever requires review, or re-visioning, whether that be your relationship or your job or a new project waiting for a start date. It's basically ‘two steps forward, one step back’.  Though a bit frustrating at times, this is a preparation  time ... to allow space for  something new and completely different. Whatever is not working needs to be let go of at this time.

The current Grand Trine in Earth signs is a stabilizing influence right now, helping us endure all this uncertainty, and  the conjunction of Venus (love) and Jupiter (joy, expansion)  in Taurus creates a lovely feel good factor (check out the night sky, they are easily seen).

In a few days, as the Sun enters Aries (ruled by Mars planet of aggression, impulse, forward movement, desire) it immediately hits Uranus ( the Awakener) as well as Mercury and the Moon.

This is an extremely dynamic, highly charged moment, ripe with potential, full of possibility. The resulting energy imprint will pervade the whole year. If a New Moon sets the tone for the coming month, the Sun at the beginning (Aries point) sets the tone for the whole year. Add the two together and ……

The intentions we put out at this New Moon have so much ability to manifest its almost scary.

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”  (Goethe)

Yes, there is still a holding back. It will slowly begin to shift as planets move forward again. Mercury is retrograde for a couple more weeks, Mars turns direct in mid April and Saturn  in June right round the time of the exact Uranus Pluto square.

We can liken this New Moon to a fuse is being lit. You know those Roadrunner cartoons where the coyote lights the fuse then waits and waits and finally goes to see why it hasn’t worked ...  and then it explodes in his face.  Boom!

Don’t think just cause things are still a bit slow  that nothing is really happening. Hold your ground and … wait.

And don’t ask me for what. That depends on each of us. There are enough pundits out there willing to explain it all on a global scale. I haven’t a clue.  I am just a baby astrologer anyway. Yet I can see what is obvious: that there is a fuse being lit and it may burn slowly at first but by mid June a big something will  start to be seen. An explosion? An implosion?  Definitely the meeting of some very powerful energy at the very least. And this will happen seven times over the next few years … so June is just the beginning. As I have mentioned before, two other times I know of these energies meeting up so intensely were in the 60’s and during the French Revolution.

So…. next week… from Tues March 20 , the Spring Equinox to Thurs Mar 22 , the New Moon  seed will be planted, the fuse will be lit.

What lights your fuse? What do you want to create in your life? At this New Moon we can be part of creating a new reality. Focus on what you want to see begun. Focus on your highest wish… for your self, and for humanity. Focus on your heart and light the fuse. And know you are part of an amazing time on planet earth.

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.

Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”

Full Moon in Virgo

In this chart (www.astro.com) you can see a beautiful Grand Trine (a triangle) between the Full Moon and Mars in Virgo, Jupiter/Venus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. For a few days there will be a sense of stability and blessing, despite  testy feelings hovering around the perimeter (the calm before the storm?)

A Full Moon is the peak of the lunar cycle. In Virgo, it sits opposite the Sun in Pisces, the last Sign of the zodiac wheel, bringing a sense of completion or culmination to the zodiac year. Spring is just around the corner (in the Northern hemisphere at least) and we are going to be heading into some rather intense astrological weather.

It’s a good time to check the sails and mend the nets before heading out to sea. Or, if you can’t relate to watery metaphors, a chance to see where you are standing now, in relation to where you were at this time last year? Do you know where you are now…or where you are heading?

This is the last bit of preparation time you may get before things really start to really zoom forward in April.

This sense of extended pause seems to have been going on in some ways since the end of 2011, and is increased at the moment by Mars retrograde motion in Virgo and Saturn going backward in Libra. Both are pulling us back over issues and details and encouraging us to rethink and redo before we spring ahead in a few weeks.

In a few days Mercury goes retrograde as well, with a propensity for scrambling our communications and making us take extra time to avoid glitches. It is a bit of a ‘hurry up and wait kind of situation.

There are some very interesting things about this next Mercury retrograde period that starts next Monday Mar 12th when Mercury now in Aries  moves backward  into Pisces.  I have discovered that it is actually quite positive and will help set the stage for the coming changes  (more next post).

Meanwhile, the current Pisces fluidity encourages us go with the flow. Two weeks ago, the New Moon in Pisces arrived right as the Sun was snuggling up to Neptune (ruler of Pisces), unleashing a flood of  cosmic love vibes into the atmosphere. Some of us have been rather floaty/dreamy ever since, with all sorts of intuitive and/or inspirational ideas flooding our beings with creative visions and awakening our deeper spiritual longings.

The Full Moon in Virgo asks us to put that into some sort of practical form.  Walk your talk. Make your love/vision/dream real.

Full Moons (or any sort of opposition) usually involve relationships of some sort, as, symbolically at least; we are dealing with someone/something standing opposite us.

With the Moon and Sun in polarity, emotions and egos are at full tilt, and everything can seem more extreme than usual as our primal instincts are heightened.

The Moon also bumps into warrior planet Mars at the same time, and Mars has a tendency to shove back.  Patience won’t come easily, with Mars’ edgy, gotta-get-going energy already feeling held back. The resulting frustration, especially for you Martians out there (um I mean Aries) can cause  flare ups and stand offs. This will manifest for the rest of us in the area ruled by the house the Moon or Sun are sitting in.

Pluto Squaring Mercury and  Uranus in Aries won't help either... adding power struggles to the list. Try not to be drawn into any battles. Take things slow but steady. It's not anyone's fault.  And it will happen … eventually !

Luckily, that lovely Grand Trine in earth will help stabilize and ground most of this wacky energy, providing a container and grounding the excess positive charge. It’s an excellent time to focus on creative projects (rather than pushing at people) and basically enjoy yourself.

You could snuggle up on a fur rug before a cozy fire as Venus (love) and Jupiter (joy) move closer together in sensual Taurus, adding a rich indulgent tone that encourages luscious tastes and yummy pleasures.

Chocolate, wine and thou?

I love getting comments. Go on don't be shy!
