A Super Full Moon in Cancer welcomes us to 2026!

Happy New Year!



 2026 begins with a powerful Super Full Moon in Cancer, a watery lunation that marks an emotional peak and an opportunity to release another layer. It may reveal what emotional baggage we are carrying into the new year and offer a gentler way forward, with more ease and grace.  The first Full Moon of the year is known as the Wolf Moon, named for the time when food was scarce and wolves howled through the winter nights. There is a similar intensity to this Cancer Full Moon—a deeply sensitive sign—where vulnerabilities are heightened, but so too are compassion, support, and healing.

 


This is also a Supermoon, appearing larger and brighter as it moves closer to Earth. With Jupiter joining the Moon, emotions feel abundant and amplified. This lunation is especially potent because Cancer is the Moon’s natural home, where lunar energy is strongest. Arriving just days after the New Year, it acts as an emotional exhale—clearing space so we can truly begin again.

Cancer rules home, family, and the mother, while Capricorn—the Moon’s opposite—relates to duty, structure, and the father. This polarity highlights the tension between our outer responsibilities and our inner emotional needs, reminding us of the importance of nurturing and being nurtured. As we emerge from holiday busyness, this Moon invites us to turn inward. If family issues were stirred over Christmas (as they often are), this Full Moon may bring them to a peak—offering release and healing.

I’ve been feeling this personally. Christmas brought beautiful time with family—birthday celebrations for my granddaughter, laughter, games, and shared meals. From walking among giant cedars on the West Coast to skating beneath twinkling lights back home, my heart feels full. As Jupiter crosses my own Cancer Sun, gratitude and abundance are strong—though Jupiter does tend to overdo things! Balance is definitely required.

 


This Moon calls us to slow down, re-center, and reconnect with what truly nourishes us.

  • fatigue or a desire to turn inward

  • how often you put your own needs last

  • how rarely you allow yourself to be cared for without guilt

Although the Moon has already passed its peak, the first Full Moon of the year sets the emotional tone for 2026. If Chiron opens old wounds they are ready for healing, and  Jupiter offers growth and support. Neptune asks for faith; Saturn reminds us to stay grounded. Practical faith.

 Unresolved family themes often surface during the holidays—expectations run high, and old patterns reappear. Gentle self-care is essential now: rest, warm drinks, quiet walks, music, and heartfelt conversations. The Cancer Moon rules memory and the past, inviting reflection and emotional integration.

 Those with planets in the cardinal signs—Cancer, Capricorn, Libra, and Aries—may feel this most strongly. Family and relationships act as catalysts, helping us uncover vulnerabilities hidden beneath a strong exterior. There may be tension between independence (Mars) and the desire for comfort and connection (Venus).

With Sun, Venus, and Mars traveling close together, we’re offered a sacred balancing of feminine and masculine energies. Cancer teaches emotional care; Capricorn helps us take practical steps forward. It’s not either/or. Take your love and make it real.
