Leo New Moon : The true Power of the Self

 Today's Leo New Moon pulls us into the shadow lands with Pluto, god of the underworld, standing opposite. Power struggles may show up in our relationships as we grapple with a deep struggle for power and control. Mercury (thinking, communicating) retrograde suggests secrets may be revealed that have been hiding beneath the surface. A Venus-Mars square increases the tension (as well as the chemistry) Some people thrive on this kind of tension ~ it turns them on. Yet the fear of being exposed can make some people very defensive. 

Mounting tensions can erupt as egos flare.  Mars in Virgo right now shows up as hyper-critical aggression;  the habit of critique that has become an unconscious reflex where everything and everyone  becomes a target.  This is nit-picking on steroids.  Yet with Mars is on the South Node release point; we are being asked to let go of our righteous anger and learn to forgive.  The North Node in Pisces shows us the way by calling on our compassion and care.  Can you make a fresh start?

 

New Moons represent new cycles and new beginnings. Through the power of this New Moon,  and through empathy, we can transmute old anger by transforming our insecurities into  strengths.

 

If we can channel our inner fire in a positive way (fire can heat your house or burn it down) this fierce energy becomes constructive rather than destructive. Martial arts come to mind where we learn to use energy and force rather than be used by it; every move shifts us and builds strength, focus and flexibility. Zen body-  zen mind. Through directed action we become more self aware as each breath is taken consciously. 

 

Conscious means not from ego. People might say that ego is Leo's trade mark  ~ look at me, look at me. That is a trait of the  less evolved Leo, yet at their best,  Leos are ruled by the heart, they display a true sovereignty that arises from a true sense of self. This Leo Moon asks who is ruling your kingdom? Are you giving your power away to someone or something?

 

What is personal sovereignty? This  New Moon is a mirror of the soul... who do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you know your own true power? Are you the ruler of your own self? Are you the master of your own domain?

 

Leos are linked symbolically to the Sun and to Gold. The name of this blog (Aurum) is Latin for gold, and the symbol for gold is the same as the symbol in astrology for the 'Self'. Pluto brings about deep changes through the alchemical process of transforming and  transmuting base material (anger, ego, fear, unconsciousness etc) into gold (personal mastery and sovereignty).  From lead to gold, we learn to shine our true light into the world.

A folk tale that comes to mind about a man who rescues a young lion cub and puts it in with his sheep. Raised in this company, the young cub grows up thinking they were a sheep as well. He has fun frolicking in the fields, eating grass and playing with his sheep friends. One day a huge lion shows up and roars so loudly that all the sheep run to hide, including the  young lion. "Please don't eat me"  he cries,  as the lion approaches. "I am just a poor little sheep. Hardly a mouthful." 

 

The Lion is surprised. "What do you mean' don't eat you'? We don't eat our own. Don't you know you are a lion?"  He then takes  the young lion to a pond and shows him his reflection. "See ~ you are a lion."

This Leo New Moon is asking us to claim our personal sovereignty and our personal power. Not through power over ~ but through the power of the heart. This is a sacred invitation to connect with the power of love.  Then hear yourself roar.
