Pisces Moon Full Moon Blue Moon

Blue Moon in Pisces tonight! Wed August 30th - early morning Thurs August 31st in UK and Europe.

The whole Blue Moon thing is fun, though actually not really that significant astrology wise ~ as the Gregorian calendar is highly arbitrary and not based on the 13 natural Moon cycles in a year.  So enjoy the Blue Moon - which is also a Super Moon (another somewhat arbitrary term cooked up to sensationalize everything) Yes ~ several times in a year the Moon is a bit closer to earth, but generally not enough to really be particularly significant.

Pisces is highly romantic, creative, dreamy, yet the main feature of this Full Moon event is that Saturn is within a few degrees of it,  throwing a bit of shade over the hopes and dreams of Pisces. And with Jupiter (travel, fun, play, higher learning) about to enter retrograde motion, it suggests that our enthusiasm will be tempered in some way.  Add to that a ton of retrograde planets right now (including Mercury) and it looks like we are in for a more inward experience.

"And here fantastic fishes duskly float,
Using the calm for waters, while their fires
Throb out quick rhythms along the shallow air.'

Elizabeth Barret Browning, A Drama of Exiles
Like it's symbol of two fish swimming in opposite directions...Pisces can work against itself, with a tendency to be escapist and addictive. The sign of the fish  prefers the ethereal realms to the harsh realities of the physical world (Saturn). Poets and mystics live here, while a sign like Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) is more inclined to the pragmatic and practical. We are currently being infused with 'Saturnian' energy of  hard work, commitment, focus etc , which Pisces will initially resist. The message is that we must come down to earth and walk our talk.

Yet despite the drive to get focused and move forward (Mars Pluto, Saturn Moon), delays and distractions interfere with our plans and force us to surrender and be patient. Saturn likes to take things step by step.  Sometimes the inability to chart our way forward forces us to surrender to the NOW.  This is a good time to slow down and rest. Things will speed up again soon.

Use the opportunity to just be.

The preponderance of retrogrades  emphasize finding joy in stillness. At the New Moon two weeks ago, we focused on Venus conjunct Sun/Moon in Leo, then square Uranus, then retrograde. Still in backward motion, the planet of love and money is about to turn direct next Sunday.  As it does so, Jupiter (joy) turns backward with the dynamic tension between them  offering expansion and optimism and hope. This provides some positivity just as it feels like we will be going backwards forever, and there is an inherent promise that despite the hurts and vulnerabilities  that may be coming up, we can and will clear  these old patterns that keep us small. This is all around self love and self worth  and how we can proceed with a more intact sense of self (see previous blog post re Venus/Chiron).

This  process of self healing will continue , with Venus  once again at  a right angle with  Uranus (the Awakener) near the end of September. At that time we may experience some sort of majour  shift, aha moment or surprise encounter that opens our heart and reminds us of who we truly are. Everything being  stirred up is in service to that purpose. Venus in Leo is about the heart, and points to our need to shine and to feel valued in this life. Maybe we will finally figure out that we ARE beautiful and we ARE loved and we are worthy of a fulfilling life.

We can consider this Full Moon as a majour turning point in the process. Saturn reminds us that there is still work to be done. When old traumas arise, the first instinct is to avoid and escape. Pisces can fall into victim/martyr  consciousness ~  and Saturn can certainly be a little hard on us. Saturn says grow up. Face your stuff. Take responsibility for what you are creating in your life. Like a stern yet loving father, it also provides the support we need to do so. And a warning to take things one step at a time, like with a detox: start low, go slow.

Sometimes when things slow down or go sideways, we panic that all movement will grind to a halt. Don't worry, that's not going to happen. A powerful kite configuration in the background is activating a profound possibility of  transformation, which suggests that the difficulties we are facing are part of a larger picture, and we  can tap into a more resolute, determined sense of purpose (Mars in Virgo with Pluto in Capricorn). Yes,  Pluto’s fierce gaze can be daunting ~ yet gives us the sheer bloody mindedness we need to persevere in the face of obstacles.  Mars drive added to Pluto’s power  can work in our favour by keeping us focused and on track, in spite of all the retrogrades and strange dynamics.   And yet along with determination, there is a need to surrender.

Our relationships are involved.  What a conundrum!

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know...
Should I stay or should I go

Saturn represents the inherent limitations of the material world ~ full of difficulties and restrictions and the effects of time and karma (cause, and effect) and lessons to be learned. With the Sun opposite Saturn, doubts and frustrations are forcing us back on our self. Yet at the same time ~ Saturn  provides us with the clear boundaries that Pisces lacks. That can be a good thing.

“The Earth is firm beneath my feet ~ The sun shines Bright above.
Here I stand, so strong and true ~ All things to know and love ”
(Waldorf school verse)

This is not about building a stronger ego, nor is it about tearing us down; it is taking us to a place of balancing fortitude with humble determination.

"There is a higher vantage point available to you, but it is obscured by the visible peak of personal ambition... To make this journey you must quiet the Ego, empty your mind of past and future, and dwell totally in the moment at hand. Thorough mindfulness of what is before you is the only tranquility."
Be. Here. Now.

#52. Keeping Still, IChing online

Pisces is a dreamer ~ and Saturn provides the reality check. Both are helping us understand the difference between fantasy and reality. This doesn’t mean giving up on your dreams~ it just means getting real and facing the challenges that inevitably come with learning to walk your talk!

One final message  is about service.  In the midst of current difficulties, we can direct our energy toward helping others and being in service in some way, and in the process we may find we have shifted out of our heads and into our hearts,  thus  freeing us from over-focusing on our own dramas and traumas.

Interesting that right now as I write this, it has started to rain,  and the thunder and lightning are shaking up the sky. What a perfect metaphor for this cleansing Pisces rain that is accompanied by  rattling and shaking to keep us on our toes.

Never give up hope.
Wait for the rainbow after the storm.

You know you want to!

"Blue moon, you saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart without a love of my own
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for someone I really could care for...

Blue moon, now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart ,without a love of my own"

Everything you are looking for is inside of you.
