New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Scorpio. Endings/New Beginnings. If you love someone, set them free
A friend tried to teach me once about intervals, a fourth and fifth ... all these combinations of notes that make up the core of music theory. It was too much for my brain at that point, but as I understand it , an interval in music is defined as a distance in pitch between any two notes. Similarly in astrology, we not only look at each planet and its personal vibrational signature, or note, but we also look at the intervals or spaces between the planets.
"An interval may be played simultaneously, which is the case in chords, or played successively, which is the case in melodies." Equally so, the planets can be understood by their unique energy signature, and also in terms of the chords struck by various combinations. Its a sacred geometry that lies at the very foundation of creation. Nasa has sent probes out to measure the electromagnetic fields around the planets, and then converted those frequencies into sound. There is no sound in space - but you can listen to them on You tube!

We are at an interesting interval right now as we enter the eclipse portal(space between eclipses)a sacred doorway between past and present, and between present and future. Eclipses have a wide orb of influence... their effects ripple out for months.
Venus in Libra is the epitome of music. After the wonderful harmony created by Sun Venus conjunction in Libra- on Oct 22 (see last post) both planets moved into the sign of Scorpio, where a more serious tone emerged. They were both joined by the Moon, and as it passed in front of the Sun we had a partial Solar Eclipse.
New Moons mark a new energy cycle- and eclipses mark endings and new beginnings. Scorpio is also about endings and new beginnings,it rules sex, death, and transformation, so the eclipse moved us from the airy Sun Venus conjunction in lighthearted Libra into the deep and dark realm of Scorpio. You want it darker? Are you ready?
Leonard Cohen You want it Darker
Yup, its that time of year, Halloween/Samhain is just around the corner. The veils are thinning and ghosts and ghoulies are out and about. Winter is coming.
Pluto (god of the underworld) is what gives Scorpio its deep and dark reputation, and its right angle to the Sun Venus conjunction in Libra was a foreshadowing of the energy of this eclipse. In the ancient Greek myth about Demeter and Persephone, Pluto abducts Persephone as a young girl and takes her down into the underworld. As Demeter, goddess of the harvest and the fertility of the earth, mourns the loss of her daughter, the world becomes stuck in perpetual winter. Eventually the gods force Pluto to return Persephone, but only for half of the year, and thus we have winter.
Another myth from ancient Mesopotamia, has to do with the dark journey of Innana's descent. Inanna, goddess of love, war, and fertility has to descend into the underworld (notice the repeat theme) ruled by her sister Ereshkigal (representing her shadow self). She is put through seven gates where at each she has to relinquish some part of her clothing until she is naked, then she is skinned and hung on a meat hook and left for dead. She calls on spirit helper (enki) and is rescued ... and although there is a sacrifice involved ... eventually she returns above to to reign above as queen of heaven.
"From the Great Above she opened her ear to the Great Below
From the Great Above the goddess opened her ear to the Great Below
From the Great Above Inanna opened her ear to the Great Below.
(Wolkstein and Kramer, 52)"

This "archetypal myth of the journey each individual must take to reach wholeness- Inanna, through her descent into darkness, the shedding of the trappings of her former self, confrontation with her `shadow', death of who she was, and final re-birth, is now a complete individual, wholly aware" is one we must all experience at some point in our lives. An eclipse in Scorpio is the perfect time to do a deep dive. We may not have a choice. The story is about meeting the dark, shadow side of oneself, and rising again renewed after the encounter.
The Innana myth is also linked to the cycle of Venus - she moves in the sky as evening star - disappears from view during the conjunction with the Sun - then rises again as the morning star, representing a shamanic death/rebirth.
Just like Venus, we rise again and again.
These two stories symbolize the Scorpio journey that we are entering as we move through the eclipse portal, it's a time for some kind of shift or transformation. This journey is not always easy - some part of us has to die to be reborn. It might be a habit, it might be an attitude. It might be a way of relating (or a relationship) that no longer works. Scorpio on the south node of the Moon represents releasing the past. Something, or someone from an old story may appear (or disappear). This could be an external situation, a long held belief or attachment, a fear we need to face. Remember the Sun/Venus message.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our LIGHT, not our darkness that most frightens us..."
Marianne Williamson (full poem at https://explorersfoundation.org/glyphery/122.html)
Venus says: 'Know your worth', and in Scorpio 'Claim your power'.
Because of the Venus association with love and relationships, this may indicate some sort of challenge or letting go that is necessary in a close relationship. Pluto's involvement suggests power struggles, control dramas, or there could be challenges around ownership/jealousy. Mars (co ruler of Scorpio) in Gemini makes us edgy and argumentative. As communication is a key issue with this eclipse, there's a need to go back over unresolved issues. This could represent some sort of verbal clearing the air, leading to letting go of past grievances. If there is someone you need to reach out to, this is the perfect time.
Although Scorpio is a highly sexual sign, this isn't necessarily just about sexual relationships. If you look to see where the eclipse lands in your own chart you can see what area of your life requires a shift, and a letting go. Check out the 'houses' in the pages tabs above to see what area of your life needs some clearing.
For any of us born in the 50's, the Sun Moon conjunction was moving over Neptune in Libra in our natal charts. This very romantic and idealized aspect - given the sexual and romantic nature of this eclipse - may be pointing to the need to release old fantasies and expectations of someone - including the disappointment that inevitably follows. Once we outgrow the search for perfect love (someday my prince will come... ) we may discover that the love we were seeking was inside of us all along.
Also, when Venus is strongly aspected like this (Scorpio, Pluto) old loves can reappear through feelings or dreams or in actual unexpected encounters. Whatever has been left unsaid can be spoken now, so we can move on in peace. Our dreams may be extra intense, even prophetic over the next two weeks. Themes of love, loss and even death may be very compelling. This is a good time for writing poetry or journalling, or using art and imagery (such as Soul Collage©) to get in touch with your inner archetypes around life, loss and loving.
This is about the sacred and secret relationships that occur as we move through the world, the merging with others, as well as the eventual separating. Scorpio is always
going to reveal some sort of shadow aspect, the hidden parts we tend to
deny or avoid, or project onto others often arise from the primal urge to merge with another, and the deep vulnerability that requires. This is where we dive into the depths of human experience to investigate our own emotional desires. Scorpios do not trust easily, due to their ability to see their own and other's shadows. When we become aware of depths of the human psyche, it is not always pretty (just ask Innana). Yet through this journey, as we acquire a deeper and more instinctual understanding of life itself, we get better at relating and sharing, and even at facing our fears of loss, and of death. It's all part of the journey - the caterpillar must dissolve to become the butterfly.
The Scorpio/Taurus nodes are called the survival axis... and an eclipse on the South Node of the Moon represents a doorway of fate ... a release point that opens to/from the past. Because they carry the shadow so well, Scorpio's can also become scapegoats who carry the weight of the world on their shoulder, or get blamed for others faults. Whatever burden you may be carrying, this is a perfect time to let it go. And if you are casting your burdens onto others, it's time to take them back and so you can integrate your own shadow. It may feel a little uncomfortable and somewhat edgy, as we move through this shadow realm - yet on the other side of our survival fears (through facing them) is a newfound freedom. They probably won't go all at once, but this could be a significant step.
Interestingly, in the dark of the moon just before the eclipse.eclipse, my somewhat old, but running perfectly well car - died. Suddenly. Unexpectedly! No warning, no loud noise - no death rattle. Nothing - just dead. Scorpio is a stealth warrior! Not everyone will have a dramatic experience; my own chart is strongly affected. Then today, I found out a very dear friend passed. Suddenly. Unexpectedly. Gone. He too had strong Scorpio in his chart. Sigh. Part of the Scorpio lesson is that nothing (and no one) lasts forever - on this plane at least. Fly free my dear friend. Fly away home.
Beginnings and endings. It was always thus.
There's one other factor I wanted to mention (can it get more cheery?!) Ever since Uranus - the Awakener ( shocks and surprises) has been moving through Taurus close to the North Node of the Moon, the financial markets have been all over the place; gains and losses, ups and downs, a roller coaster ride. The Full Moon eclipse in Taurus in two weeks is very close to that collective destiny point and is all about sudden changes. Issues at both these eclipses will be around safety and security, abundance and loss, surviving and thriving. Expect the unexpected! Taurus is about our need for safety and security, our belongings and creature comforts. Scorpio highlights both our vulnerability and our strength. It not only rules death, it brings life; teaching us that nothing lasts forever, it helps us build resilience and the ability to persevere in the midst of the storm.
Although it all sounds a bit heavy, the actual message of this eclipse is that we are here to thrive - not just survive. We are co creators of our own destiny. This is a highly creative dynamic that can shift us forward in a powerful way. Despite whatever is going on in the outside world, or even because of it, when we align our personal will with our higher self, we tap into our super power. Not power over, but the ability of love to create and to empower. A New Moon is a time to plant the seeds of intentions; it's not too late ... whatever we focus on grows. At the Full Moon eclipse in Taurus in two weeks time, we will move into the next stage of that process.
In the meantime, if you're feeling stripped down, or perhaps a bit naked, take some time to sink into your body and your feelings. Do a ritual. Light a candle, give your fears and worries to it, then blow it out. See - they are all gone. Think about what is worth holding onto, and accept what needs letting go off. Set an intention and set it free. You know you want to!
