New Moon in Gemini: Stop Think Observe Proceed!

Today (Monday May 30th) we had a New Moon in the sign of Gemini, ruled by the trickster and shapeshifter Mercury. New Moon’s represent a new energy cycle, and often include a shift of some sort as new seeds of intention get planted. This one may feel a bit hesitant, delayed, held back,  because Gemini’s ‘ruler’ Mercury is still retrograde and in tension with Saturn - which blocks and impedes. It suggests that we may be still clarifying our thoughts about how we want to proceed,  and perhaps finding it difficult to articulate or vision a way forward. Gemini wants us to be conscious of how our thoughts affect our actions, and thus our life!

The recent eclipses in Taurus and Scorpio activated our survival instincts by stirring up unprocessed shadow material; pushing us into emotional depth and  intensity around  facing hidden secrets or dealing with some form of letting go.  Whatever was stirred up in your life, and whatever you are moving through and past, this next Moon cycle will add a bit of lightheartedness and cheer by bringing in new ideas and fresh perspectives, albeit with a few challenges (Saturn).

Gemini is known to be curious, adaptable, and open-minded, gets super excited about gathering data, collecting information, and tries to make logical sense of everything. The sign of the twins can see a diversity of viewpoints, and is quick to find inferences and connections that others often miss. This clever sign  can sometimes  seem rather fickle or superficial; the inherent duality of Gemini means they can say one thing one day and the complete opposite the next. They are not necessarily lying, they just have discovered a new point of view.  In this way Gemini helps us to let go of mental fixity by bringing in more mental fluidity. At its  best, it helps us verbalize our inner experiences and communicate them to the outer world; when we become aware of the importance of how we articulate and verbalize our thoughts, the result is a more conscious awareness of how we communicate. 


If Gemini is about our thoughts and words - Sagittarius opposite is how those thoughts become beliefs and systems of belief. This New Moon encourages  a mental reset by bringing in new ideas that expand our thoughts and beliefs.  This process is not without its challenges; we all cling to what we think and know (or think we know); over these  Covid years we have seen how survival fears mixed with a belief in consensus reality  create very strong points of view that do not like to be challenged. I have seen people faced with actual facts that, that, because they go against their  beliefs or way of thinking (including what they've been told) literally cannot take in the new information; they just don't want to know. Now I am not going to try and tell you what to think or believe... just saying we all need to question everything...  and be open to a diversity of viewpoints in true Gemini fashion!

Hopefully, eventually, the truth(s) will out, and meanwhile, as we continue to be inundated via media with information, words, and  so-called facts, we need to admit our limitations (Saturn) and  admit that we don't always know what is true and what is false. That reality can be rather unsettling, most people naturally prefer certainty over uncertainty - and this has been part of the stress of recent times. Discernment  and clear thinking is the message of the day! We just have to learn to read upside down!

 
During the last few weeks ,  Mercury Rx has been about reflecting on and revisiting the past -  in order to clarify our ideas and plans  so we can begin to see the way forward more clearly. It often does this by turning things upside down and inside out. Its final position in Taurus - before it moves direct again -  suggests we need to ground our ideas and perhaps go over them one more time - to be sure we are on solid ground.
 
This time of review is almost over (till June 4)  before we start up a new direction. Today the seeds of change (our intentions) are sown,  and in a few days things should begin to shift forward. The house Mercury has moved through in your chart (see pages) will show more detail about what may have needed a rethink, and where the New Moon sits is where the new impetus is being created. The end of a Mercury retrograde also can bring up new information that influences future decisions. Perhaps you  have found yourself repeating something in order to get clarity about it. This happened to me this weekend. I participated in a local mind-body-spirit fair and did mini-astro/hand readings. Its has been quite a while since I have done something like that, and  I was excited to participate. Nonetheless,  I discovered that doing so many quick  back to back readings is quite exhausting and does not allow me to develop a real connection to people, in the way that I like. So by doing something I thought I wanted to do -  I am now more clear about what I definitely do not want to do. Whatever it takes!
 

 

The challenge from Saturn  says we need to be impeccable with our thoughts and words.  Saturn can represent external  authority figures that like to tell us what to say and think, or in Aquarius the societal pressure to conform to consensus thinking. The super ego represents  the internalized voices we have been conditioned by in our life.... there is a huge challenge now to really attune to our inner voice. It's easy to avoid doing so for fear of offending someone or other. Doesn't it sometimes feel like we are living in the the novel 1984? The land of double-speak! The warning is to really pay attention to your thoughts and words; are they yours, or were they inserted into your brain somewhere along the way?   

The New Moon in Gemini suggests we learn to think for ourself!
 
So if you are needing to make some sort of decision  -  review the facts,  then commit to a course of action (Saturn). There is powerful acceleration from Mars and  Jupiter in fiery Aries - they are all Go Go Go.  This energy can easily take over,  so once things get moving, keep your hands on the reins and be clear on what direction you want to be heading.
