Pheonix Rising: New Moon in Scorpio

Just a quick reminder that there are short daily posts on Facebook (link lower right) and if you leave your email on link top right you will be notified when there's a new (longer) blog post.

We are still in the 'Dark of the Moon' ... just hours before the New Moon in Scorpio. We are entering the darkest time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere as we head toward Samhain, Halloween, The Day of the Dead. The veils between this world and the 'other' world are thinning,  and we can almost feel the spirits around us.  This is a time to remember those who have passed as the mists of time  swirl about us and envelope us in a parallel world of magic and mystery.

This year, Nov 6th marks the half way point between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice... called a Cross Quarter, and between now and then we get to spend some time in the most shadowy sign of the zodiac.

Scorpio rules sex, death and transformation and is more at home under the covers than out in broad daylight.  Scorpios can be intense and threatening to some, due to their uncanny ability to penetrate beneath the surface of things, but they can't help it if they have night vision.

At this time of year we all get to explore the taboo side of things or tickle our nerves with scary films and spooky stories.  While kids in North America dress us as goblins and ghoulies, in Mexico they celebrate the 'Day of The Dead'  with parades and food, flowers skulls and other  symbols of death   and altars dedicated to family members who have passed.  It's all part of honouring those who have gone before us while remembering that one day we will go too, and strikes me as a very healthy approach to living and dying.

As I have lost quite a few friends over the past few years,  last year I made an altar with a skeleton  pumpkin... putting out names and pics of so many that have gone before me (much more than I would have anticipated at the tender age of 60!) I found this a very cathartic and healing experience and will do the same this year.

Scorpio presides over the inevitable  death and decay that clears the  way for new growth in the spring, as well as the life and death forces involved in sex and sexuality. Orgasm is called the 'little death' and represents the risks and pleasures involved in merging with another or  creating a new life. Stepping outside our familiar boundaries to connect to another is part of the process of growth and transformation encouraged under a Scorpio Moon. This is not always easy as Scorpio does not trust others so readily;  the ability to see what is hidden can have its draw backs.

However you approach it, this time encourages a more inward focus, and we can use this to examine our too often un-examined life.

The joining up of Sun and Moon that occurs each month creates a seed time, where we  set intentions and initiate new projects. Because the Moon is usually behind the Sun (in front would be an eclipse) we wont even see it until a  day or two later. Perhaps at Halloween on Monday night a slight sliver crescent will  appear in the dark sky to draw our attention to the shadowy  Scorpio New Moon.

Scorpio represents deep and profound transformation and  requires us to root through our unconscious to uncover blocks or fears that could get in our way of moving forward.

The New Moon encourages us to set clear intentions as we enter the next phase of change that has been unfolding over many  months.  If you have made key emotional shifts or decisions recently or come to significant forks in the road....  Scorpio now asks us to dig deeper into the process of creating a truly  new beginning. We may need to re-calibrate  as new information enters the picture, or as new resources are uncovered that will help keep us on the path we have chosen. One thing is for certain: there's no going back,  and yet the way forward still remains a bit of a mystery.

Scorpio loves magic and mystery. There's a sexy, sultry wariness in the air as we try to sniff out whats under the surface, certain there is something there that can aid us in achieving our goals. Whether those goals are sexual in nature or of a more practial kind, passion and intensity go along with the sign of the Scorpion.

Another symbol for Scorpio is the eagle, and/or the phoenix who dives into the fire and rises again out of the ashes. Some of us will undergo a needed pruning to enable more efficient movement along on the road ahead. Something is being let go of to make way for MORE!

Mars/Pluto joined together recently added tremendous drive and oomph that continues to push us to the next stage. Mars/Uranus in tension are impatient and raring to go, increasing the compelling urge for radical change. Eris (chaos) will make sure nothing happens as planned. Even if you have your own crystal ball,  you can expect the unexpected.

Jupiter in Libra is expanding our relationship energy, increasing our capacity for joy as well as for change. Look to see where people or situations have outgrown their usefulness. We have all sorts of relationships in our lives besides  romantic ones. Look in the Houses section above to see where Jupiter is pushing for expansion and growth. For example if you have Jupiter in the 3rd house of communication, siblings, immediate neighbours, you may experience an increase in communication with a sibling or a neighbour.  Or you may go on a short trip.

If Jupiter is crossing over your Moon in Libra, you may be experiencing a broadening of your emotional world. If it's in your 7th house of relationships you might meet someone , or... your relationship could suddenly feel too confining etc etc. I've said a few times recently that Jupiter can often bring endings as we outgrow certain situations. It all depends what our expansion requires of us.

Venus,  planet of love and money, is now hanging out with Saturn, the Grim Reaper. This is where we reap  karmic lessons, face restrictions or limitations, or are asked to live up to our responsibilities.   This pairing of love and limitation can add a sad or serious tone to relationship or money matters. If you are facing difficulties in love, you may be  asked to own up to something that you have been avoiding. or you may be in a process of letting go and mourning lost love. Or it may be an idea or expectation around love that needs releasing to allow you to appreciate what is right in front of you.

Some might fall into sadness or depression. The good news is Saturn can bring us to a deeper level of commitment. or relieve us of something that a was holding us back. It's that 'one door closes and a window opens sort of thing. Patience required.

“I said to my soul, be still and wait without hope, for hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love, for love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith, but the faith and the love are all in the waiting. Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought: So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.” T.S Elliot

As you sit in that dark stillness,  continue to observe both your thoughts and your feelings. This energy can help us face those unloved parts and get to the roots of our conditioning. The next step is we  get to discover  positive new ways of loving and being.  If you have recently ended a relationship, take some time to be alone ... don't try to fill the gap quite so quickly. As we move into new territory,  Jupiter promises much growth as we seek the bigger picture.

Let the Scorpio New Moon help you begin again.

You know you want to.
