May you live in Interesting Times!

Storm warning!!
 This weekend, as Uranus  the Awakener,  exactly squares Pluto the Transformer, we reach the first peak in what will be several years of intense restructuring of both ourselves and our environment.  The last few days have been getting edgier and edgier, as the square becomes exact tomorrow.

As these two powerful planets  butt heads again and again over the next couple of years,  the ripples in the cosmic pond will be radiating out for a long time to come. The most intense effect of this first clash will  remain strong all this coming week, so be advised.

I believe we will look back on this time with the same interest as we now do the sixties or other pivotal moments of social upheaval. This upheaval may be manifesting in your own life as well, as the urge to change and the resistance to that same urge create powerful tension within and without.

Both Uranus and Pluto bring sudden change; where and how will depend on their location in your chart. It could manifest as internal unrest or show up in sudden jarring events. This is a good time, if you don't already practice Mind-fullness, to become very centered in yourself and watch out for knee jerk reactions to people and events.

Elsa P over at,  feels that this is actually a very positive energy in that it will allow us to break out of old patterns that have held us back (Pluto in  Capricorn)  and help us find new solutions and ways of seeing (Uranus in Aries). The recent eclipses and focus on the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity  have emphasized that this is a time to let go of our old petty ways of thinking and tap into the bigger picture.

 Time for something completely different!!

There may be some strange behaviour going on as we all react unconsciously to this powerful energy field:

"Be aware that people may driven by their subconscious to act erratically, . If you see someone who appears unstable or to be spinning out, I’d give them space unless you’ve got the skills to help them out.  This is self-centered transit in many ways, which means a person in crisis is not likely to be considerate of anyone but themselves."

I had an experience of this last night and to be honest, I did not initially handle it very well.  As I realized  my reactivity to his reactivity was being amplified big time by the current astrological atmosphere, I backed down before serious damage was done. Whew!

'Let many things pass'   is good advice right now.

I recently received an email from someone speaking about corrupt world authority systems and the misuse of resources.  This is the key message of the current Occupy Movement as well as the many street uprisings all over the world  that are challenging these old ways.

“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.”
                                                   Frederic Bastiat - 1850

The dictionary meaning of Plutocracy is "ruled by wealth."  and in Astrology, Pluto equals wealth, power, control. And also, Transformation.

The current energy says we have the chance to change the world ...  and yet to do so, I believe we must first change our inner world.

  "As within so without."

What is our true wealth?  Without some sort of consciousness of  our true essence, we will always we ruled by fear, greed, and anger. The image at the top of this blog was inspired by a talk by Prem Rawat,  at , where he said (to paraphrase):

 'We are so rich, we do not even know it; it is raining gold yet we go about like beggars. He put out his cupped hands and said,  'consciousness'   is what allows us to receive those inner riches.'

That is why the recent Venus transit in front of the Sun was such a powerful and timely messenger, reminding us that love is more powerful than fear, and we have everything we need inside of us.

New Moon in Gemini (again)

It feels like things are accelerating at an significant rate since last month's eclipses and the Venus transit.   As we rush through the rest of June and into July there are increasing cosmic changes in the air.

If you are feeling a bit ragged, or unusually tired or exhilarated, its because we are undergoing such rapid changes to our psychic framework and how we experience/view the world.

 Jupiter moved into Gemini on June 11th, super-charging Communication and all things relating to the Mind for the next year.

This Tues, June 19th, we have the second New Moon in Gemini this month, rather appropriate for the sign of the twins, and then the Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) arrives on June 20th, the day after the New Moon.

On June 24th we reach the first exact degree of the infamous square of Pluto and Uranus.   (sorry, I previously said the 20th…)

This particular aspect marks the current time as one of intense transformation and revolution.  Not since the 60’s have we seen so many people taking to the streets to protest everything from student fee hikes to government policies to corporate greed to immoral despots to environmental genocide. (The list goes on and on and on)

Uranus Pluto says it’s a time to stand up and be counted.

In the background, Saturn, retrograde in Libra for over a year,  forced us to go back one more time to negotiate healthier boundaries in our relationships and/or asked us to commit in a real way or leave for once and for all. As Saturn stations and turns direct on June 25th , things will finally shift forward and we will begin facing the consequences of those decisions.

 Luckily, Venus, planet of love, recently passed in front of the Sun in a rare celestial show, showering us all with blessings and reminding us that love really is the answer.

Venus’ retrograde motion through Gemini turned some of us inward and backward to face old issues around self worth and self love. Old lovers or old memories may have reappeared in your life as Venus swept us backward in time.

Part of the message was/is that everything we are looking for is already inside of us. You can carry that insight forward with you when Venus turns direct on June 27th.

Mars finally leaves Virgo after 8 months and goes into Libra on July 3rd, urging us to act on those lessons Saturn brought   so we can be centered and balanced in our relationships with others in the coming years. Time to walk the talk!

Meanwhile, we’ve had a series of eclipse events: the annular solar eclipse with Sun in Gemini, a partial lunar eclipse last week in Sagittarius, and then the Moon making an occultation (passing exactly in front of) to Pluto right at the end of the transit of Venus.

Needless to say these are powerful times with the potential to learn and grow as never before. Eclipses are about releasing the past in a big way. The Moon (and thus our emotions) will be a highly sensitive right now. Dreams may contain messages or insights into the new energies emerging.

A repeated focus over the last year on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis  highlighted the need to balance our reliance on the rational mind, detached and mentally astute, but caught in daily dualities, superficialities, and a focus on difference, with a bigger, broader more holistic approach that is more feeling-intuition based and sees all as part of one unified source.

These eclipses have been about synthesizing and integrating these two seemingly opposite modes of processing out daily lives.  Old thought patterns, unconscious assumptions and self defeating core beliefs have to go.

As we examine the filters through which we view the world and each other, and confront the dualities in our lives and in our psyches, we may feel destabilized or a bit world weary.Just remember: this too shall pass. At the other end of it all may lie a possibility we haven't even yet envisioned.

So don’t give up hope. As my friend Doug often says:
‘new moment new choice!’

A New Moon is like a reset button. Focus your intention and let it be so.

“Just about anybody can succeed when things are going well; it takes a genius to succeed when situations get strange. Keeping the faith in the face of uncertainty or doubt is an ability that will serve you well.”

The most significant and spectacular recent event, outshining all the above, was the  Venus/ Sun transit, heralding the return of the exalted feminine.

The dominance of a left brained, overly rational, divisive masculine principal (patriarchy) has lead to centuries of oppression and rape of the planet, of women, indigenous cultures, etc and was/ is  rooted in a negation of feeling and intuition with the rule of might is right.

Venus, representing the feminine principal, re-emerges from behind the scenes to once again help us reconnect to the power of love.

These are powerful times. A lot is at stake. And we can do it!!

Love is Coming

Today, June 4 2012 there is a partial lunar eclipse of a super Full Moon (extra large and close to earth) sitting at 14 degrees Sagittarius. Just before sunrise EDT and around midday GMT, the circular shadow of the earth will cover a portion of the Moon’s surface.

Then, the following days of June 5th and 6th, we are being treated to a rare transit of Venus at 15 degrees Gemini, where it can be seen (with proper viewing glasses) as a black dot passing over the face of the Sun. This event won’t happen again in this century and in combination with so many other powerful markers occurring at this time, brings a powerful message of peace to our somewhat beleaguered and weary planet.

Just to add some spice to the mix, soon after these events,  the Moon slips between the Earth and Pluto to add extra wham-bang to this packed and powerful astrological sky.

After an extended period of delays and blockages due to various retrograde planets, we are now stepping fully into the dynamic and transformational energy of 2012 as the celestial sky moves into warp speed.

The recent  Super New Moon eclipse on May 20th really started things moving… and now its all really kicking off.

Of course many (most?) will go on through their lives unaware that anything significant or unusual is taking place.

Nonetheless, many will look back at this time as a major turning point in the history of human kind, and the planetary alignments right now are markers for a season on earth of profound change and transformation. It will be interesting to look back many years hence and see how it all turned out.

“This is an alchemical moment — when the forces of change are at work, though this is happening on a depth that isn’t really accessible to rational consciousness. In fact what’s developing can throw some curves to reason and sense and ordinary awareness, including emotional and psychological disturbances, stress and misunderstanding.”
                              Eric Francis, Planet Waves

Uranus (uprising, awakening, rebellion, revolution) and Pluto (death and transformation, crisis, power struggles) have been moving closer to an exact square, setting off last years’ Arab spring, Occupy movement and rebellions and standoffs against the powers that be all over the world. The current protests and riots in Quebec are coming to a peak as the Square becomes exact on June 24th.

The last time these two heavy hitters were in square (tense) aspect, they heralded the depression and droughts of 1930’s, and triggered off a long season of revolution and dissent in the 1960’s.  In the late 1870’s, their cross aspects marked the French Revolution.

Today’s Full Moon eclipse is part of a striking combination of cross aspects between planets…  called a Grand Cross. This one is in Mutable signs (changeable)  involving Mars in Virgo opposite Neptune/Chiron in Pisces, both in square to the Sun/Moon opposition.

There is an extreme tension in a Grand Cross, which when combined in a mutable dynamic of change, means we will feel a great pressure between what feels fixed and unmovable and what needs and wants to shift and move.

A Full Moon is itself a polarized energy field between Sun (masculine, ego, will forces) and Moon (feminine, intuitive, feelings) The Eclipse will highlight the need for a balance between our rational ego based thinking, and our intuitive, Yin need to be receptive to feelings.

This yin/yang opposition is even more emphasized now as Gemini rules the logical mind and Sagittarius our higher intuition.

The eclipse in Sagittarius will also  ask us to not let our own beliefs and ideals be a barrier to seeing anothers' point of view.

In the last year we have already had several eclipses on this Sagittarius/Gemini axis, restating again and again the need to listen to a variety of viewpoints, while keeping in mind the big picture.

This Full Moon eclipse, as well as the recent New Moon eclipse prods us to let go of old belief systems and out worn patterns of thinking that are stuck in  old, adversarial paradigms of self vs other.

As Sagittarius rules religion and knowledge, and our deepest soulful striving, it urges us to reconnect to a source which is universal.

Asking the BIG questions like: who am I and why am I here? ,  Sagittarius is always pointing us to our higher self and the innate joy we have at our core.

That joy is being called forth with great splendour on Tuesday as Venus, planet of love and harmony, moves in front of the Sun (in Gemini).

Gemini is all about communication and this rare planetary event has a special message for us.

If we could zoom in on Venus right now, we just might see her waving a beautiful banner of peace, urging us all to remember our true heritage, our true essence.

That essence is love.

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.                 Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
