Light a fire - clear the cobwebs away,
Jump over it, through it, around it. Play!
Dance, sing, and celebrate spring!
Fill your heart with gratitude for everything!

Today is the Beltane New Moon in Taurus. Beltane is celebrated between 1 - 5th of May in lazy, lusty, lovely Taurus ! Fires are lit to invoke the Sun -  warming the earth so seeds may be  planted.

Maypoles symbolize the phallic aspect of fertility, while garlanded maidens  blessed the fields with  feminine fecundity. Singing and dancing and jumping over fires were all part of ensuring a good crop to feed the people as we celebrate and bless our mother earth.

The fire in the hearth was the central focal point for all activities in the cottage. The fire at all other times of the year was never allowed to go out, but all household fires were ceremonially quenched on May Day and then re-lit with fire from the Bealtaine bonfire outside.”

Fire cleanses, purifies, transforms.  It keeps us warm and provides us with light.  Taurus is earth. It grounds us, stabilizes us, supports us, feeds us.

The New Moon in Taurus is a powerful symbol of fertility (the Bull).  Ruled by Venus, planet of beauty, love, and money – ancient mother goddesses were often associated with the bull.

Taurus represents rich, feminine, earth mother energy offering  pleasure and abundance along with patience, persistence and perseverance.

As I say each month-  a New Moon is a seed time -  the ‘conjunctio’ – or sacred marriage of masculine Sun and feminine Moon representing a highly creative moment where we can plant our seeds of intention and vision our way forward with renewed energy.

We have been having a challenging time with Saturn /Pluto  creating a background of pressure, tension, fear, and dread. Yet this formidable force, if harnessed, can accomplish just about anything (if you can get them working for you rather than against you).  Combine them with the stubbornness of the bull, and nothing can stop you!

 Yet with Saturn and Pluto  both retrograde at the moment - we also have permission to take a much needed break. Use this moment to slow down and care for yourself.

Then again - Uranus close by wants to shake us up and wake us up - bringing waves of high frequency energy to blast us into unexpected situations and dynamics. Change is afoot and we can ride the wave or be swept under it. All this back and forth energy is creating a kind of two-steps-forward,  one-step-back kind of dance. Hey ho - do se do - swing your partner to and fro.

 This is sexy energy. Taurus has a special fondness for sensual delights and creature comforts. It likes a glass of wine, a delicious meal, the smell of  chocolate;  a sensual exchange. This is  about self worth - reminding us to take care of our physical needs and to nurture both body as well as our soul.

Speaking of- as May Day is traditionally a time to prepare the ground for planting - we can prepare our own inner ground for planting new ideas.  Sometimes the best ideas come when we are not trying so hard. One term for the feminine principle is ‘the receptive’ -  a time to become more yin – intuitive  -  allowing. Take the pressure off (before it explodes).  Let some steam escape. Indulge a little.  Remember what is is like to enjoy yourself.

And remember we do so by the generousity of this beautiful bountiful planet earth. Beltane is a time for anointing the earth - blessing and thanking her. Caring for her. If you want to do a ritual-  link it to seeds or fire or new beginnings. Light a candle and set your intention. Write them down and literally plant them in the ground along with some seeds.

Let your bare feet touch the ground - breathe in the sweet air - enjoy this wonderful spinning blue-green  sphere we live on. She is precious,  and without her we would not exist.

These are difficult and uncertain times. We do not know what the future holds, but we can each make a difference. This Taurus New Moon calls us to venture forth into the world with strength, integrity, intention, and inspiration (which means to breathe in). Breathe deep!

You know you want to!

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
