New Moon - Solar Eclipse in Aquarius
On Thurs
the Sun will be partially eclipsed by the New Moon in Aquarius. The first bite out of the
sun will become visible at 18:55 UT on February 15, when the silhouette
of the moon starts moving across the sun. The eclipse will reach its
deepest point at 20:51 UT, and will end by 22:47 UT. For observers
across South America and Antarctica, the sun should be very low to the
horizon by that time and close to setting in the local sky.
Although the solar eclipse will only be visible in the Southern hemisphere - it's energetic signature will be felt for months to come.
This is a significant and
powerful fork-in-the-road moment- as we let go of another layer - in order to allow space for new
ways of moving forward. We will be challenged to think for ourselves - so that we have something distinctive to contribute. Aquarius says we are unique- yet we are not alone. This kind of unity consciousness is what the coming new age is all about. Getting there is the tricky part.
The old way is
obviously not working any more- and in this transition from old to new- this
is where the past meets the future. Rainbow warriors unite! Are you ready?
This eclipse offers to transform our thinking and step us into a totally new level of
understanding, particularly in the area the eclipse lands in in our chart.
This will be
indicated by where the last few degrees of Aquarius falls in your chart. That
means if your birthday is from the 15th to the 21st of February – or similar dates in Nov (Scorpio) – May (Taurus)- and Aug (Leo) – the
eclipse will aspect your Sun (self) triggering majour shifts in perspective or bringing surprising new directions to your life.
I’ll add house meanings at the bottom (the chart is divided into 12
houses which represent various areas of our life… or see the 'houses' tab at top of web-page). The house where the eclipse occurs will show where a new point of view may be required, or where something is being released.
Eclipses propel
us forward into new territory- sometimes without much warning, depending on the planets involved. Remember last
summer’s ‘Great American Eclipse’ in Leo? Immediately afterward the US was hit
by three hurricanes, huge fires, earthquakes – all in a very short interval. It
was like something had been shaken loose.
This eclipse is
the next phase of that energy - occurring in the same spot/degree – only opposite- Aquarius Sun. Aquarius is about our connection to the group, how we see ourselves as part of a community and how we step up
to contribute to the greater whole. It us also about detaching from the group to think independently. Getting the balance right is the thing.
Aquarius a
freedom loving sign that is open minded and future oriented, bringing to the
group its own unique genius and special way of seeing things. It may involve some form of social justice
- or social empowerment - where we step up to make a difference to
the greater good.
In our personal lives- this is where we seek – and find- a
fresh new vision that enables us to move forward in a way that not only benefits us - but also enhances how we see ourselves in
relation to the people around us – the communities or groups we are involved
with.
There are
always lower and higher frequencies to every sign. Aquarius is at
its best when encouraging us to think outside the box and see things from
unusual angles. It considers everyone as having their own unique value, and seeks
ways to find commonality and connection within diversity. As far as Aquarius is concerned - we
are all in this together.
The less
evolved side of Aquarius can be the loner who doesn't fit in, or the stubborn
chip on the shoulder that reacts with a knee jerk rebellion to any and all
authority. Rather than pitch in and find solutions, the negative Aquarius
spends their time finding flaws in other people or criticizing organizations or groups without offering anything more positive.
This Solar
eclipse could bring out extremes of these attitudes - we will get to choose which side of
Aquarius we want to be on. Will it be an us-or -them attitude (adversarial) or a welcoming of diversity and difference (co-operation).
The eclipse is at the South Node of the Moon - showing us what is passing or needs to be released. I get the feeling that we are being challenged to get unstuck from 'group think' - even as we connect to others - a big part of this message is about detaching and thinking independently.
The joining of
solar and lunar energies we call a New Moon is a special moment where we
get to press the reset button to start anew. The ‘Conjunctio’ – or ‘Sacred
Marriage’ of Masculine (Sun) and Feminine (Moon) - contains a seed energy where we can plant intentions
for the coming month. When the Moon
comes exactly between the Earth and Sun to create a Solar Eclipse - the
energy is amplified, ad so are our intentions. This partial Solar eclipse energy will ripple out for six
months, instead of just one - so make your intentions clear and true.
Because Mercury (communication and thought patterns) is closely involved - our mental attitudes are critical to seeing our way forward. We must examine our motives to see why we act the way we do, if we are to expect different outcomes. This New Moon Solar eclipse is
offering new possibilities and options to those willing to let go of the safety
of their habitual behavior.
Venus nearby
indicates that our relationships patterns or issues with money will be
part of the reset. Being the day after Valentines Day- it seems rather appropriate that our attitudes toward love and relating are up for review. There may be some disentangling necessary - the message is to be gentle yet clear. Whatever is being let go of will make way for something even better... even if it doesn't seem so right now.
Venus represents love and value- (hence its connection to money). If we lack a sense of personal value- nothing will ever seem to be right. Focus on self-love and all else will fall into place.
Venus has been closely involved in the last two lunar events
- there’s been something in the air about feminine power and women rising up to be
heard. Those topics are still in the headlights as we continue to examine our
attitudes toward women - toward our own inner emotional patterns – including
our issues around sexuality – power - equality. We are breaking free of what has held us back. The feminine is on the rise - and she is powerful!
We are at a
moment of quantum shift - the old ways of operating and behaving are either
no longer working or no longer acceptable. Yet the old guard- our habitual
mind- clings to what it knows - and rejects what it sees as threatening.
This energy blast can give us a boost in a new direction as it removes obstacles to our growth. Change comes – whether we like it or not. Better to work with it rather than against it eh?
This Solar eclipse
in the freewheeling sign of Aquarius is preparing us for a new era. It asks us to embrace change by expanding our vision of what is
possible. We need to let go of those stubborn attachments that are not working in our favour - be they to attitudes - or people - or ways of being . There's a fresh wind blowing - it wants to fill your sails and bring you somewhere new and exciting.
If you've
been feeling a bit edgy or uncomfortable- take some time to feel into this
moment. What is it that you really want in your life? What vision do you want to
see manifest? Can you let go of the past with no regrets? Or will it have to shake you loose!?
In terms of the us or them theme- how do you see yourself in terms of your connection to others-
are you an insider or an outsider. And or both? This is about finding-
and celebrating - our tribe - our community – our planet. And our place on
it - in our own unique way.
'To thine own self be true - and thou canst be false to any one!'
You know you
want to!
Houses = Areas of life
The house the eclipse occurs in will show where some sort of 'aha' moment might occur - where something is about to shift or change- something/someone may be leaving - or has already left and you can now finally let go. A new way of seeing the issues involved. A new path opening up etc. The effects occur over six months - so not necessarily immediate change- but looking back you will realize it began at this moment.

If you don't know your birth time or can't do the chart- use your Sun sign as house # 1 and count round from there. This is the method used in newspaper Astrology columns and can be equally significant.
