Happy Easter: Happy Spring! Happy Return!

Today's Moon in Sagittarius is light and breezy compared to the last few weeks. Sagittarius is the freedom seeing adventurer of the zodiac. I hope you are enjoying some kind of inner or outer fun this weekend. On Sunday as the Moon hits Saturn things will focus our attention the Venus/Chiron moment occurring this week. With Moon Saturn on the Galactic core tomorrow, the biggest call to adventure will be about finding our way home - to our self - and thus to each other  - and Venus -  goddess of love - wants to show us the way.

I am sure you all know by now about  ancient origins of Easter: Ēostre or Ostara : Goddess of Spring associated with eggs and hares and symbols of fertility.

Ostara, Eástre seems therefore to have been the divinity of the radiant dawn, of upspringing light, a spectacle that brings joy and blessing, whose meaning could be easily adapted by the resurrection-day of the Christian's God. Bonfires were lighted at Easter and according to popular belief of long standing, the moment the sun rises on Easter Sunday morning, he gives three joyful leaps, he dances for joy ... Water drawn on the Easter morning is, like that at Christmas, holy and healing ... here also heathen notions seems to have grafted themselves on great Christian festivals. Maidens clothed in white, who at Easter, at the season of returning spring, show themselves in clefts of the rock and on mountains, are suggestive of the ancient goddess.[8] Wikepedia

There is another story that  fits the Easter theme of death and resurrection which is emphasised by  today's big event : VENUS TURNS DIRECT  - after six weeks travelling backward from Aries into Pisces. Before passing behind the Sun on March 25th, Venus was seen as the evening star just after sunset. She is now moving into her new position, sparkling in the early morning sky.

I've written a fair bit recently about this powerful healing moment - as Venus (planet of love and beauty) -  meets Chiron (Wounded Healer) in the sign of the Soul (Pisces). This journey has activated the archetypes of wounding, loss and redemption (Chiron); coming face to face with our shadow, our lost parts, surrendering our ego (false self) to return healed and renewed by universal love (Venus in Pisces).

Venus retrograde motion is reflected in an ancient tale called  'Inanna's Descent'

Inanna, Queen of Heaven, was also also known as Ishtar, the Sumerian Goddess of love, beauty, sexual desire, and fertility, and was considered the Mother of Humanity.  The story is about her dark descent into the underworld, where she was stripped bare of all she had and knew,  and hung as a corpse on a meat hook for three days and three nights. This story is seen by some as symbolising the shift from the matriarchy to patriarchy, where all  yin/feminine soul qualities were dismissed, denigrated, destroyed to make way for dominance, power and greed.

Inanna  was eventually rescued by her spirit helpers, and after some complicated arrangements, she was released above ground once again.  But her story remains a symbol of the downward spiral life takes sometimes, and how our softer feeling side gets pushed asunder far too often in order to stay functioning in a more linear, materialistic world.  Her death, transformation and rebirth echo the themes of Easter - where  Christ - another symbol of love - was crucified then  buried for three days -  and rose again as a symbol of redemption.  This year Venus links them both.

As we celebrate (and eat) symbols of life, fertility and rebirth, we are reminded that after the death of winter comes the renewal of spring.  'Christ' means 'Light' -  Easter is about the Return/Rebirth/Resurrection of the Light - and  Venus/Pisces/ Chiron marks the return of true love after a long dark night of the soul.  It is time to be reborn.

This  message of hope comes in the midst of increasing confusion and darkness, where everything seems to be getting worse and worse. Last Tuesdays Full Moon  brought these themes up to the surface. We are in a kind of purge, a healing crisis,  a necessary descent that is stripping  us to our very core.  Yet the key message is  that change is possible, healing is possible. It may take some work and some facing of ourselves (Saturn), but we can do it. We have to do it, if we want to see a shift in our lives and in our world. We are facing our  dark side, as Inanna had to face hers.

Yet there is hope: Venus message is that, even in our darkest hour, the light of pure love is always shining.  We just have to turn within to see it.

On March 25th Venus' conjunction to the Sun marked the fifth point of the five pointed star/flower of life formation created by Venus orbit in relation to the earth, and today she begins her forward motion around the Sun. Tomorrow morning if you rise early enough you will see her twinkling on the horizon, bringing blessings and a healing balm to release us from our separation and suffering. Venus in  Pisces is the  universal love that will free us.

So - there is something to celebrate (love), something to surrender (ego), and, as always, much to learn.

Venus, the sacred feminine - the Love that has been long buried or denied - can now rise and shine. She is the heart. She is the earth. She is the soul. It's time to bless her, receive her, honour her.  And in so doing honour your own soul self.

You know you want to.
