A Blood Moon/Full Moon Eclipse Sept 27/28

The Blood Moon /Full Moon Eclipse is upon us! (Sunday evening in North America)

When the Earth eclipses a full Moon, sunlight is diverted through the Earth's atmosphere first, which sometimes causes the totally eclipsed Moon to look reddish.

The Lunar Eclipse on September 27/ 28, 2015 will occur during the Northern Hemisphere's first fall (autumn) full Moon. Called the Harvest Moon in many northern cultures, it is the Full Moon closest to the Autumn Equinox (Sept 23rd)  which increases its significance.

On a mythological level, Blood Moons are seen as harbingers of change.

It may seem like something is being taken away, while the potential also exists for much to be added. We just have to make space for it. This is another moment of quantum shift as things rearrange themselves. For some it will feel like the ground is shifting beneath your feet. Yet, its all just energy, and energy cannot be created and cannot be destroyed. It’s just being moved around a little(or a lot)

“Nothing can be given or taken away; nothing has been added or subtracted; nothing increased or diminished. We stand on the same shore before the same mighty ocean. The ocean of love. There it is - in perpetuum. As much in a broken blossom, the sound of a waterfall, the swoop of a carrion bird as in the thunderous artillery of the prophet.

We move with eyes shut and ears stopped; we smash walls where doors are waiting to open to the touch; we grope for ladders, forgetting that we have wings; we pray as if God were deaf and blind, as if S/He were in a space. No wonder the angels in our midst are unrecognizable.

One day it will be pleasant to remember these things.”

Henry Miller

Astrology describes the cycles of time and space and matter; the powerful source energy that moves stars and suns and planets. The interrelationships of things, the meeting and melding of energies, the cross-currents and the tides… all these we speak of, and all that is really just pure energy in the guise of matter; cosmic movements of planetary bodies in space expressing themselves as archetypal forces.

Eclipses have always held a powerful place in mythologies all over the world. Many thought the sun or moon was dying… great fear was often accompanied by intense ritual meant to appease the god/s. Death of a god was rectified by death of someone or something.

Now we are so ‘advanced’ and ‘civilized’… we see no such power and have no such fear. Yet the fascination remains.

When I experienced my first Blood Moon years ago I was awestruck. There it hung in the night sky, this glowing round, red orb hanging above our little planet called earth. Suddenly the Moon felt more solid and real and not so very far away. I cant quite explain why it brought me to tears… I was moved beyond any logic. That’s kind of what the Moon represents… and does… it connects us to a more intuitive, illogical side of our being. Some fear that part… the word Lunatic comes from Luna (Moon). Eclipses can accentuate that fear.

In astrological terms an eclipses does signify some kind of shift or death, something that  is passing away to make room for new energies to emerge.

A Solar eclipse has more to do with external changes, while the Moon signifies a more internal process.

If you know your own chart, look to see where in it the Blood Moon occurs( go to astro.com for a free chart) The “ house’ meanings in the tab at the top describe the where change may be immanent for you) The outer change would have been triggered by the Solar eclipse two weeks ago, while this lunar eclipse may show the resulting emotional adjustments needing to be made. Blockages that have become intense during the last few weeks may now dissolve or reach resolution. Tears may fall....

One of the things that makes this particular eclipse so powerful is its position at the ‘Aries Point”. That is the beginning of the zodiac and where the solar year begins in Aries. It is said to represent the link between the personal and the global.

So while this Moon will definitely activate more internal, feeling based processes, they will likely link in some way to what is going on the greater world.

As within, so without.’

Aries (Moon)  is about the self entering into the world. Libra (Sun) is about self and other… the harmony and balance between things that keeps it all flowing along.

As Moon in Aries is what is eclipsed (dying) we are being asked to move from a self centered narcissistic approach and look out to those around us. The Syrian refugee situation may be a good example. Friends of mine are working on the relief effort so I hear a good bit of news and am deeply touched, not only by the suffering there but by the caring response of so many. And yes , then there are the governments and the war mongers and the selfish ‘other’ who judge and condemn and ignore.

I am not going to tell you how you should thing or act, nor am I clear on what the solution is,  except to listen to this clarion call to get more in touch with our hearts. That seems a good place to start.

The ruler of the Sun in Libra is Venus, who,  sitting in Leo, is ruler of the heart. Venus has been dancing with Mars in the sign of the Lion. Leo is about the playful celebration of our true magnificence. Mars in Leo brings courage. Cour = heart. Mars will move into Virgo tomorrow but continues to invigorate Venus in Leo.

Venus is the feminine side of love, and Mars is the masculine. When these two get together there is a lot of passion and a LOT of heart.

So part of the current astrology is asking us to find our heart's passion by finding balance with our feminine and masculine sides. We need to feel deeply and we need to act consciously. The two in harmony bring us that passionate engagement with life we all crave.

There’s been a lot of tension with Saturn Squaring Mars. Many have felt blocked, frustrated exhausted.
Yet sometimes, blockages have their purpose. They slow us down and force us to re-evaluate how we are acting (Mars) Feeling (Venus) or  thinking (Mercury) (or communicating)

Mercury retrograde in Libra turns us in on ourselves and amplifies the need to reflect on our relationships with others.  AS Venus moves  backward through Libra it gives us one more chance to be the change we want to see in others (and in the world.)

The Eclipse is also being activated by its close contact with Lilith, who I’ve mentioned before.

In  Judeo-Christian mythology, the original woman created with Adam was named Liliith. She was a wild woman who refused to obey or lie under Adam (representing earlier matriarchal cultures where women were powerful and free).   So Lilith was banished from Eden and Eve was her replacement. And thus began the rule of man (patriarchy) Someone from his rib who was soft and pliant and malleable, until she ate that damn apple,  and screwed it all up of course. Damn women,  it’s all their fault!!!

Ahh there's the rub. There is the feminine who has been banished, repressed, depressed for a long, long time. She represents the soul, the feeling self, the inner world. Our focus on logic and linear thinking has turned anything that is non-linear into 'woo' (interesting how that is kind of a short abbreviation of 'women').   Seems it is nigh time for her return so we can right the balance.

Part of what has to be released is this old and outworn negativity to feelings; toward our feeling self, and to vulnerability, to women and children ,  to 'woo'. We are now being pointed toward our intuitive,  more emotionally intelligent  self, so she can be integrated with the other, rather than be relegated to 'other'.

These are powerful times. Our soul is calling out to be felt, to be known. Time to embrace the lost feminine.  She's been out in the cold for too long.  Let her speak, let her rise. Let her dance!

Happy Eclipse. May you know the passion and joy of a heart truly open.

Autumn Equinox: A time of Balance

HAPPY AUTUMN EQUINOX!!!!!

As the Sun is moves into Libra tonight (early morning in UK)  DAY AND NIGHT ARE EXACTLY EQUAL.  This is a good time to pause and take a deep breath. Notice what you are feeling. Notice what is on your mind. Notice what is in your heart.

The coming week is very intense astrologically,  leading us up to  FULL MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE ON SEPT 27TH/28TH. Some are feeling stuck and don't know how to shift into gear.  The pressure is mounting and many will be touchier than usual and also HIGHLY REACTIVE.

Mercury moving backward in Libra is in a tense 90 degree angle to Pluto (a square). Watch out for power struggles. Mercury can take us deep with this influence.  In Libra that means getting real in our relationships. Radical honesty is the thing to shift whats  stuck.  Leo gives us courage.

... Saturn is now in Sagittarius and squaring Jupiter. Mars is at the end of Leo and squaring Saturn. Squares create intense pressure and impel us to action. Saturn blocks Mars urge to act, and stifles Jupiter's urge to expand. This is what is creating the pressure.

And the the Equinox  is supposed to be a time of balance!

If you feel like you have been in a sort of limbo, we will soon take a step forward into new energy. Till then, keep your head down, your mouth shut,  and your heart open! This too shall pass.

Healing is on its way....

More on the Full Moon Eclipse coming soon....

Equinox, Eclipses, and Mercury Retrograde. Are we there yet?

Another day, another blog post! I've been a bit distracted over the  summer but am now slowly getting back into the swing of things in true Virgo fashion (details, work, service). There's a lot to catch up with, a LOT going on.

As we head toward the Autumn Equinox (how did that happen?), where night and day are equal,   energies and planets  are shifting gears yet again,  as we find ourselves  heading in  directions we could never have envisioned even a few months ago.

There was a partial New Moon Solar eclipse last Sunday, which brought to a head  relationship and money issues that have been building all summer. Sunday's partial eclipse set the stage for a second (lunar) eclipse on Sept 27/28 . On that day, a total Full Moon eclipse will trigger even greater changes as many doors close and others begin to open.

If you are at a crossroads and haven’t figured out which way things are going,  this time could mark  a majour turning point.

If you come to a fork in the road…take it!

Everything could change quite suddenly, although the after effects will ripple out for months to come. If you are waiting for the penny to drop, this may be it. Or it will soon.

Mars (masculine energy) combined with Venus (feminine energy) is bringing a lot of passion into play. Or play into passion, since they are conjoined in the playful sign of  Leo. Neptune opposite Jupiter has  us caught in a dream of sorts. Is it real or is it an illusion? WHat do you believe in? What do you know?

Saturn  hovering at the last critical degree of Scorpio could be triggering  self doubt or a great deal of tension; caution is advised, but don't let Saturn spoil the party. Just drive with your eyes open and  temper your expectations with a good dose of reality (tricky that).

Uranus activation of the Mars Venus conjunction in Leo bodes well for positive outcomes. Then again, Uranus is always full of surprises.

Venus cycles are very important in the grand scheme of things. Love, after all, is what makes the world go round. She is all about the exchange of energy, which also includes money.

The last Venus retrograde coincided with the 2008 stock market crash. A financial 'correction' has been predicted for mid-September, and China's economic crash may be just the beginning. The long term effects of these eclipses will ripple out for many months, and these are unpredictable times. I am not particularly into predictions, though it does help to be forewarned of the general climate.

What I can say for sure is: The interpersonal climate is going through a shift in temperature. The economic climate is unstable.  Outcomes are uncertain.

This has also been a very tricky time for relationships. Venus backward motion in Leo in August brought up many unresolved emotional issues  and demanded we deal with unfinished business. A heart reckoning is at hand as we will need all the emotional intelligence we have to get clear on what it is we want.

The North Node (collective destiny point) in the sign of Libra has emphasized the focus on co operation vs conflict, Self  vs other. This push pull dynamic has forced us to examine where we stand in relation to people we interact with, and both of the September eclipses will amplify the point.

If you are uncertain as to where you stand (or sit), it may be time to sh*t or get off the pot.

To get clear with others we have to get clear with ourselves.  We have been through some deep emotional cleansing these last few years. It has not been easy, although the rewards for emotional clarity are many.
Our values are being tested so that we can align with our deepest integrity and get real with ourselves and others. As we begin to claim our own magnificence and build a solid sense of self worth, we can begin to recognize and honour the same in others.

Many have been through the gauntlet. Saturn (karma, limitations, lessons, duties)  in Scorpio (crisis, death, sex and shared resources) brought us into shadow lands that seemed to go on forever as we were forced to examine the deeper issues that hold us back (anger, fear, doubt, jealousy, greed, survival)

And now, once again, we are at a crossroad again, and we get to choose (again) what is important in our life and who we want to share it with.

Libra wants co operation and harmony.   Over the past two years, the North Node in Libra has been pushing us to balance our own needs with those of others, and as we integrate and balance the urge for autonomy with our need for connection, we  discover we are not so different.  We are all in this together.

Venus in Leo, says open your heart and celebrate your 'Magnificence.' Let your light shine.

One more thing: Mercury will be turning retrograde (backward)  in Libra as of Friday, slowing down our communication so we can examine and improve how we interact with each other. This retrograde will  give us some time to  reflect on everything that has transpired over the past few months, and get us to make up our minds around things that are yet clear enough.

Information often comes to the surface during a Mercury retrograde.  If there are still unresolved issues, this may bring some closure. If you are keeping secrets, this is the time to get them out in the open. Hidden issues eat away at us and cause us to withhold our energy from those we love.  Secrets and lies  are usually  rooted in shame and guilt; undertaking some kind of moral inventory could help us get real with what is going on, and why we are keeping secrets in the first place. If you are that is.

Or some may find out information that effects the choices they are facing. (like discovering your accountant ran away with all your money) Hopefully not that but you get the idea. Honesty really is the best policy.

Of course the edict remains true to 'cause no harm'.

Lastly, as Saturn enters Sagittarius this week,  in exact square to both Neptune and Jupiter (who sit opposite each other) it will begin to bring us face to face with our illusions, false gods and limiting beliefs. This process will go on for a while, so get ready to get real.

In terms of the current focus on relationships, if our ideals don’t match the reality, it may be time to wake up and smell the coffee. That could be a freeing experience as we get real with each other and stop playing games. Time to get up close and personal and tell the truth about who we really are.

You know you want to...

Surrender to LOVE Venus Retrograde ends Sunday

Venus  travelling backward in the sign of Leo has been a powerful influence  for weeks now drawing  us into the shadows and  bringing up unresolved issues around loving and being loved.

This is the planet that signifies how we exchange energy and shows how and where we are receptive to both love and money.  This isn't about sex (thats Mars job), it's about the feeling values involved in relating to each other. As it happens though, Mars is currently snuggled up to Venus in Leo, so theres a lot of juicy energy available to us if we can handle it!

In the midst of all this creative flow we will have to  make peace with  unresolved issues around love and intimacy.

As she turns direct on Sunday and begins her climb back up toward the light, Venus  reappears in the eastern horizon as the Morning Star (before her retrograde motion she was in the western sky at sunset hanging out with Jupiter).  Her decent has been a difficult passage of self through the hidden corridors of  our deepest unconscious, amplified by Lilith (disowned feminine) hanging out at the North Node in Libra (sign of relationships) and Saturn (planet of karmic lessons) in Scorpio (shared resources, sexuality and death).

Lilith represents the rejected feminine in all of us, and Venus stands for the love we have always been seeking.  So much of our relationships remain unconscious as we try to get our unmet needs fulfilled by others.  We expect so much from each other. Or so little.

A lot of the astrology in the last few years has been directed toward making us more aware of these dynamics so we can heal our hearts and free each other from our unconscious  projections (the good and the bad) and blame. To do that we need to look in ht mirror of relationship and recognize the face we see there is our own.

"It is an excellent time to go into, sit with, feel, and heal past relationship woes, hurts, and failures. It is a time when memories can get triggered, feelings re-emerge, and judgments of ourselves and others come to meet us. It is such an opportunity, if we can actually let them come up, not ignore and stuff them back down (where they create dis-ease) and step from judgement to a state of vulnerable inquiry for Spirit to work magic within our hearts, bodies, and souls." Kaypacha

The North Node of the Moon signifies the soul intention of humanity at any given time. As it has passed through the sign of Libra over the past year or so,  it too has been getting us to examine our relationship and partnerships with others.   Libra wants balance and harmony rather than confrontation and conflict. Aries opposite needs autonomy and freedom to thrive. Getting the two in balance has been part of the lesson of this last cycle.

This plus Venus's  decent into the underworld may have opened up a world of un acknowledged feelings.  This stuff coming up has been hidden a long long time and it is raw and sometimes even rotten. A cleansing is required, and maybe even some kind of sacrifice. SOmething has to be let go of.
We may be required to stand apart from others for a time...  to gain some perspective. The risk of loss can cause fears to arise. It's hard sitting in the dark, not knowing what will happen. Yet that is where the most profound shifts happen.  But we have to have patience and we have to wait.

“I said to my soul, be still and wait without hope, for hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love, for love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith, but the faith and the love are all in the waiting. Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought:  So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.”

 T.S. Elliot

This is about the renewal of the heart.  Take care of yourself and be gentle with each other.

The process of peeling away the layers requires much trust.  We may have to let go of  our precious notions of what 'should' or shouldn't be. This will clear the way for something  sweet and new and even better to emerge, yet we really have no idea exactly what that will be or what it will look like. That is why trust is essential.

Neptune's powerful influence increases the feeling that nothing is in our control. As the planet of the unconscious mind amplifies both our fantasies as well as our disappointments, sweet surrender is the only way to go. But one must be careful what we surrender to. Not everything that  we are drawn to is real or even of value. We are called to hone our skills of discernment; Virgo's influence  helps us to pierce the veils of illusion and zero in on what is essential.

Lastly, Saturn in the last degree and critical of Scorpio increases the pressure to deal with the disowned, shadowy parts of our psyche that cause so much havoc from beneath the surface. We have been digging in the dark for a while now and uncovering  secrets long buried. Sexual and survival issues may be triggering our shame as hidden memories lying in the shadows rise to the surface...  requiring us to face our deepest fears about love.

If someone  gets really close, what will they find out about me?

So much is being uncovered, recovered, discovered, and all  for our healing and for our release.

The energies working on us now are not for our torture (although sometimes it may feel like it) but for our renewal. Only a whole happy human being can be a good companion to others and suitable steward on planet earth. So much destruction has taken place due to our disconnection from ourselves, each other and from source. What is being peeled away now is what no longer serves us. We may cling to the familiar with all our might yet in the end we will profit by our loss. All we really have to lose is our suffering, our pain, our ignorance; our false self.

Time to surrender control and allow healing to happen. You know you want to.

Venus reminds us that our destiny is Love.
 Leo gives us courage.
The lesson is trust.
The challenge is to surrender.

Kahlil Gibran on Love

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
