Black Moon/New Moon in Aries: Something New/Something Old

This Sunday’s New Moon in Aries is about to send us headlong into spring!

Ok I know it officially already started when the Sun moved into Aries on March 20th.  As we start the new lunar cycle, the Sun and Moon together  in feisty, fiery Aries really kick-start the astrological year.

Uranus in Aries is about living authentically, alive and awake, about discovering who we are and what we want. It is really about time we let go of that old, limited self  and stepped into who we came here to be!

This is also the second New Moon of the month (called a Black Moon); this month we  have straddled the old and the new; Pisces (last new moon) is the last sign of the zodiac, while Aries is the first.

It has been a weird month of missed communications and  foggy wrong turns, and many of us will be glad to see the back of it.  Once we turn our headlights on in the fog …  forward motion will be totally possible, as long as we drive carefully. By next week the sun will have cleared the mist away completely and (hopefully) our destination will be more visible.

Till then: Stop. Think. Observe. Proceed.

The doubling of New Moon energy in March has special significance.

“ The double lunation is associated with higher consciousness, hidden wisdom, the deepening of communication with spiritual realms…. The Goddess Hecate has been associated with the Black Moon. A beautiful and powerful goddess in her own right, the Greek goddess Hecate was the only one of the ancient Titans who Zeus allowed to retain their authority once the Olympians seized control. Zeus shared with Hecate, and only her, the awesome power of giving humanity anything she wished (or withholding it if she pleased). She is also keeper of the hearth and the inner realms.” http://www.goddessgift.com/goddess-myths/greek_goddess_hecate.htm

Hectate  is  associated with crossroads, entrance-ways, turning points. She offers protection in times of change.

This  powerful archetype can  guide us over the threshold of the dying year (and dying age) as we enter into the new beginnings of spring. She shows there are choices to be made and a new direction to be taken.

'When one doors closes, another one opens.'

Although it is clearly time to shift our energy forward, part of us may be still hanging out in the past. Saturday represents a transition between the old and the new, it is similar to the recent Spring equinox, where everything was in equal measure.  We can use these moments of ‘pause’ to gather ourselves,  to reflect on and connect to our more inner promptings before turning our energy outward. Part of the emphasis at this moment is about releasing the past. Whatever it is that needs letting go of, now is a good time to do so.

 Then … spring ahead!

The Sun and Moon in Aries push us forward, filling us initiative and drive. Aries is the go-getter; impatient, irascible, courageous; always intent on leading the way.  If you are needing some energy to kick start a new project, this would be it. Add Uranus to the mix means we are all in for some very rapid change.

Uranus and this New moon are all part of a cardinal (initiating) Grand Cross, the on/off configuration I have written about for the last year, where Uranus and Pluto, in constant on/off tension over several years. These are the movers and shakers of the zodiac. The last time they were bashing up against each other so distinctly was in the 60’s, resulting in massive cultural revolution and change.

The Pluto/Uranus dynamic gets amplified by planets squaring or opposing them in Cancer or Libra. Right now Jupiter and Mars are stepping in as catalysts and amping up the voltage. There is tremendous pressure to now to change and grow.

I have said a few times before that, if these planets are lining up in key areas of your personal astrology, your life will be significantly under revision; upheaval and change are inevitable. I am seeing some people losing jobs, partners, homes, financial base etc, and also experiencing significant improvements and new beginnings in their wake (what doesn't kill you makes you stronger)!

Sometimes you have to wait patiently for those improvements to happen. I just had an email from someone who’s chart I read a couple of years ago. She was right in the cross hairs of all this at the time, and her whole life was falling apart (marriage, home, job, children). I told her to hang in there… (this too shall pass) and last week I received an email saying things were finally shifting for the better, and that all is well. Whew!!

If this is you now… take heart… and don't give up.  These changes really are for the good, even if they don’t always feel like it. This is highly creative energy, not there merely to break you down ... it is also there to transform and rebuild.

There is a natural wax and wane of the seasons and of life:
‘A time to sow, a time to reap…
a time to keep, and a time to cast away…”
    (Ecliastics 3 / Simon and Garfunkel! )

We are at a critical turn of seasons ... both literally and metaphorically.

Sunday's New Moon energy reflects the larger shift going on all around us and within us; a new day is dawning, though we are yet at the very beginning.

How timely to have this Black Moon, which is apparently a fairly rare occurrence. In keeping with the recent wave of Mercury/Neptunian weirdness that has been blurring reality and playing havoc with our logical mind, this New Moon can again bring us into contact with things that are highly mystical, while at the same time serving as a wakeup call.

The Grand Irrationality continues!

Intuitive experiences are seldom understood in a linear fashion. They require stillness and a sensitive, listening ear. Watch your dreams over the next few days… they may give you insight into the issues you need to resolve to move forward. Meditation can be the gateway to our inner knowing. Take some time tomorrow to tune into the ‘music of the spheres’. It’s there to sooth your soul.

This transitional energy between the old and the new marks an important turning point for some, a fork in the road moment, as we reach major crossroads in our thinking or relationships or how we live in this world.

There is a potential for compulsive emotional reactions (Moon Square Pluto), control dramas, push pull scenarios etc. Some of us will deeply resist these powerful forces. Caught between the familiarity of the past and the pull of the future, it is easy to get stuck in flight, flight or freeze.

Tensions could show up as family dramas (Jupiter in Cancer), struggles with authority figures (parents, bosses etc), or relationship issues (Mars in Libra).  Our need for freedom and autonomy (Uranus in Aries) is in direct opposition to our need/desire for connection with others (Mars inLibra).  This is a balancing act and how conscious we are (Sun in Aries) will determine the outcome.

Expect everything to be more exaggerated and pronounced than usual (and slightly irrational) as buried issues rise to the surface (Saturn in Scorpio) in a second, and suddenly we are in some old pattern or power dynamic we thought we outgrew years ago!!

Despite this struggle and tension, the key message of this  New Moon energy  is change and movement.  Anything can and will happen.  And Uranus is bringing us  new insights along with the sudden changes or surprises.  The only way to remove darkness is to bring in the light!!

Remember:  April is the turning point of this year.

New moment. New choice!!

Set your intention and let it be so…

Next up: April 24th :  The Pluto Uranus square is exact for the fourth time in two years. Stay tuned.

Happy Spring Equinox (Are we there yet?)

Spring has sprung,
sort of.

Where I live in western Canada the weather forecast is for more cold and snow (after two weeks of warmth and sunshine that is very cruel) Sigh.  I know we are not the only ones.  What a winter eh?

Anyway, Happy Spring to you all. It will come sooner or later.
( and  a Happy Autumn to those of you 'down under')

Astrologically the Equinox is when we have equal day and night, hence the term  equi (equal) nox (day).  The Sun moves into Aries, sign of the warrior, bringing fire and initiative and the urge to move, do, act . Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and this is the first day. (That is why Aries like to be first)

It seems appropriate that Aries ruler, Mars, is sitting exactly opposite in Libra, sign of the scales and home of the autumn equinox. It is a moment of equanimity, when we are called to pause and find our center.  Take a breath in. Feel it.  Hold it. (Caress it) Then... let it go...exhale...  as you step into the new day.

We have a stabilizing trine from Saturn to the Sun as it enters the first sign of the zodiac, which  grounds this beginning of the new Astrological cycle,  giving it breadth and depth.

A Grand Trine in water signs between Jupiter (expansion, joy) Moon (emotions, intuition) and Neptune/Mercury (spiritual essence, creativity, communication, thinking) brings a feeling of great blessing upon us, showering us with emotional ease and grace in the midst of so much ongoing upheaval and chaos.

We are heading for another showdown between Pluto and Uranus, coming to a planet near you on April 14th , and things are tense, powerful, exciting, daunting.   Hang on for the ride... it ain't over till the fat lady sings!!!!  (does anyone know where that saying comes from???)

Anyway...   Happy Day to you!       May you live in interesting times!!!

Virgo Full Moon: Bend a Little

This Sunday the Moon is Full in Virgo, opposite the Sun at 26 degrees Pisces. If you have planets in the last degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius or Gemini, you will feel the effects more strongly than most.

All of us will be bathing in a wondrous illumination and expansion, as the inspirational energy field that emerged from the New Moon conjunct Neptune in Pisces of two weeks ago, sweeps to a crescendo this weekend.

Both Virgo and Pisces are linked to service and humility.

I am very tempted to make the following quote my whole post, as it is so appropriate to this Full Moon.

15. MODESTY creates success.
The superior person carries things through.

It is the law of heaven to make fullness empty and to make full what is modest; when the sun is at its zenith, it must, according to the law of heaven, turn toward its setting, and at its nadir it rises toward a new dawn.  In obedience to the same law, the moon when it is full begins to wane, and when empty of light it waxes again.

This heavenly law works itself out in the fates of human beings as well.  It is the law of earth to alter the full and to contribute to the modest.  High mountains are worn down by the waters, and the valleys are filled up.  It is the law of fate to undermine what is full and to prosper the modest.  And people also hate fullness and love the modest.

The destinies of human beings are subject to immutable laws that must fulfill themselves.  But a person has it in their power to shape their fate, according as your behavior exposes you to the influence of benevolent or of destructive forces.  When someone holds a high position and is nevertheless modest, s/he shines with the light of wisdom; if s/he is in a lowly position and is modest, s/he cannot be passed by.  Thus the superior person can carry out their work to the end without boasting of what s/he has achieved.

THE IMAGE

Within the earth, a mountain:
The image of MODESTY.
Thus the superior wo/man reduces that which is too much,
And augments that which is too little.
S/he weighs things and makes them equal.

Mercury Saturn at Loggerheads

Right now there is tension between Mercury and Saturn . Mercury is our communication... and Saturn is... well Saturn is whats behind the saying...'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!'  Do you sometimes feel like you are going three steps forward and two steps back?

Saturn in Scorpio can be very harsh or critical, as well as painstakingly tenacious. It will be hard to let go of perceived injustices under this combination. We might become overly defensive when we find our thought processes or efforts at communication challenged or judged by people.  Others will feel more self critical under this aspect, feeling more easily defeated or discouraged by negative thinking.

Don't lose hope... there is it the same time a very lovely trine between Neptune in Pisces and a Jupiter Moon conjunction in nurturing Cancer. Though this could amplify our emotional reactions, it will also help us access the compassion and caring  that can help us through any tense interactions.

Mars  involvement means we will feel more driven to help others in need. Sometimes when we are in straights with another, seeing their need can get us out of our own drama and into our bigger self. Acts of kindness can help us get through the day. And we can start by being kind to ourself!

Each aspect of the current astrology contains high tension as well as a wonderful fluidity. The positive  angles include points of pressure as well as points of release. This is highly creative energy and can be tapped into for any project or idea you want to activate. And though there could be some rough moments... most conficts will have a silver lining.

Those two steps back could be the opportunity to discover something we left behind or forgot that adds to our forward movement in the long run.

Our relationships continue to be the mirrors that show us where we may be stuck in negative beliefs or habitual reactions. These are not easy times yet filled with so much potential for growth if e re able to see the forest for the trees.

And as always in the current astrology, the  background remains intense with the ongoing Pluto Uranus square, which is heading for another peak in mid April. This is the wake up and shake up of our time and few will be exempt from its powerful forces of upheaval.

With both Mars and Saturn going backward the best laid plans will not run in a straight line... Be patient and know that what is worth waiting for and sticking with is what will manifest in the end. Everything else is grist for the mill...(or dust in the wind)...
Or something like that.

All in all I can say with conviction is that the Grand Irrationality continues.
Are we having fun yet?

New Moon in PIsces: 'All I need to do is Dream.... '

At this New Moon, (3 am EST and 10 am GMT…  Sun, Moon, and Neptune are close together in watery Pisces. This very non-linear, dreamy, intuitive energy sets the tone for the whole month of March. Get out your snorkel, we are going deep sea diving!!

The sign for Pisces (),is composed of two half-circles and a band, signifying the dual nature of (wo)man in both the physical world and the unseen realm. In the  symbol of Pisces, one fish facing upwards  is swimming towards the heavens, or is seeking spiritual illumination. The other fish swims downward, concerning itself with material matters.

Thus Pisces is associated with the duality of earthly life, wherein we seek the heavens, yet easily get caught up in daily life.  Neptune's prominence in this New Moon emphasizes the more etherial, spiritual side of Pisces (things are looking up).

The intentions we put out for the coming month will  be most effective when coming from our intuitive self, as Neptune is the antithesis of ego driven desire.

As the planet of surrender melts away our best laid plans, Mars, representing the more yang active part of us, assists Neptune by turning retrograde, thus increasing our inward focus  (Year of the Horse notwithstanding) !!

This New Moon encourages us to get in touch with our deepest, heartfelt wishes,  rather than expected outcomes. Ahh you say, my wish is to do this or that, or have this or that (or him or her).  Chances are, many expectations and  projections may not come to fruition at this time.  You may as well swim with the rest of us. Come on in, the waters warm.

Neptune rules the depths of the oceans as well as our unconscious.  As this watery energy dissolves boundaries and takes us beyond the concrete, it blurs our hold on physical reality. Spiritual processes have no regard for our plans or expectations.

Wanna hear god laugh, tell her your plans!!

This New Moon thus works in favour of feeling and intuitive perceptions, helping us delve into the deeper mysteries of life.  Sometimes these realms can be confusing, as we are pulled by different parts of our psyche.   Some will feel afloat in a boundless sea of bliss, others will be panicking and struggling to find solid ground. This is the domain of déjà vu feelings and lucid dreams. It is also where we can get lost in delusion, denial, dishonesty. And addictions. Keeping clear boundaries in the Piscean fog is not so easy.

The New Moon occurs on the midpoint between Neptune and Chiron.  I heard this combo appropriately called the ‘leaky wound.’ (elsaelsa.com). Chiron, the wounded healer,  amplifies our vulnerabilities, as well as our potential for healing.  Adding to this already unusual atmosphere, Mercury (communication) and Mars (action) will essentially be motionless for the entire New Moon (these effects will last for a few days)

Mercury  has just paused to turn direct after several weeks in retrograde motion, while Mars  is about to start moving backward. Soon Saturn will join him. When a planet pauses before turning around, everything is in a state of stasis, while at the same time intensified (if that makes sense). What it means is nothing is as it seems, and everything is a bit surreal... all adding to the ' Grand Irrationality.'

"It's like the mind (Mercury) and the will (Mars) are holding the New Moon energy in a moment of suspension, seemingly out of time (Saturn rules time)"   planetwaves.com

The uncertainty that comes with this blurring of edges can unnerve some, while artists, poets, writers, musicians… (as well as mediators and  yogis) will thrive in the creative chaos that envelops us.  In this strange energy field, things can be misinterpreted, misconstrued, or misunderstood.

Relationships that have already gone through so much testing in recent months,  could  be strained in this bewitching atmosphere. Be aware that things can get warped and twisted under Neptune's spell. They can also be highly erotic and sensual, so there are benefits to be had.  Yet, because Venus (love, relating) and Mars (action, desire) are in  tense right angles to each other… and both are sparring with Black Moon Lilith (the wild feminine), our needs and desires could be in conflict with our urge for freedom. Tread lightly,  and beware Murphys Law:

"If anything can go wrong it will!”

That said, there is a lovely sensitive mystical feeling to this Pisces New Moon and opportunities for healing abound in this highly creative and  healing energy field.

The alchemical Sun/Moon conjunction shows conscious awareness (Sun) in alignment with our intuition (Moon) and  allows us to draw on both, with the added bonus of the Chiron/Neptune midpoint bringing in the creative, visionary potential of Neptune to  the focusing, healing capabilities of Chiron. Jupiter’s added beneficence will help us cleanse old hurts and wounds and bring a new expanded experience of fluidity and grace.

As Neptune dissolves the boundaries that separate us, it is possible to feel the unity that connects all of us. The illusion of separation can give way to divine unity (if we let it).

Pisces message is faith and trust. If your sensitivities or woundedness gets stirred up and exposed, know that the result will be positive in the long run. It takes great courage to face this stuff… though really, it uses up far more energy to stay tangled up in our old patterns, than it takes to swim free.

I watched a relationship show today where a woman was being overly bossy and her male partner said he felt emasculated by her need to be in control of everything. The very skilled counselor suggested to the woman to let down her armour just a bit and ask for help/support. She emphasized that the man was really eager to be of service, if only he were asked.

The looks on both of their faces was priceless as their true needs were acknowledged. And as they softened their defensive stances (Saturn) , and the relief was palpable. He got invited to act in support of her (which is what he truly wanted to do) and she got to relax and let him in and let down her strong defenses (she admitted she was afraid of being let down so she felt she had to do everything). How often do our defensive patterns keep us separated from those we love (and even those we don’t)?

The key was the willingness of both people to be vulnerable and open (Pisces traits) and, when shown how, they each  let go of their ‘stance’. I admit I got a little teary witnessing their healing.

Not everyone is in  partnership,  though we are all in relationship to each other in some way.

The house where the New Moon occurs is where you may feel especially defensive or sensitive right now, yet is also where you are ready for  a profound transformation.  This is where something can shift, and where you will discover your deepest wish. The Piscean realm is excellent for all kinds of creativity and also amplifies our compassion and our spirituality. Today we can feel for others, as much as we feel for ourselves (and vice versa).

One way to channel so much Piscine empathy is through random acts of kindness. Find a way to give to someone more vulnerable than you.  At the same time, do watch out for Pisces tendency to martyrdom. Don't give at the expense of your own boundaries. We can only give if our own hearts are full and open (though admittedly, sometimes giving is what opens our hearts).

Ultimately, Sun Moon Neptune is about the universal energy source that truly fills us from the inside out. Find the still point inside and breath in universal life force. It's who we are and it brings peace.

'As within, so without.'

Add to that...  ‘to thine own self be true and thou cants be false to any ‘one’!

and you will thrive in this wonderful blissful watery realm.

Then, make a wish and let it be so.
