Love is Coming

Today, June 4 2012 there is a partial lunar eclipse of a super Full Moon (extra large and close to earth) sitting at 14 degrees Sagittarius. Just before sunrise EDT and around midday GMT, the circular shadow of the earth will cover a portion of the Moon’s surface.

Then, the following days of June 5th and 6th, we are being treated to a rare transit of Venus at 15 degrees Gemini, where it can be seen (with proper viewing glasses) as a black dot passing over the face of the Sun. This event won’t happen again in this century and in combination with so many other powerful markers occurring at this time, brings a powerful message of peace to our somewhat beleaguered and weary planet.

Just to add some spice to the mix, soon after these events,  the Moon slips between the Earth and Pluto to add extra wham-bang to this packed and powerful astrological sky.

After an extended period of delays and blockages due to various retrograde planets, we are now stepping fully into the dynamic and transformational energy of 2012 as the celestial sky moves into warp speed.

The recent  Super New Moon eclipse on May 20th really started things moving… and now its all really kicking off.

Of course many (most?) will go on through their lives unaware that anything significant or unusual is taking place.

Nonetheless, many will look back at this time as a major turning point in the history of human kind, and the planetary alignments right now are markers for a season on earth of profound change and transformation. It will be interesting to look back many years hence and see how it all turned out.

“This is an alchemical moment — when the forces of change are at work, though this is happening on a depth that isn’t really accessible to rational consciousness. In fact what’s developing can throw some curves to reason and sense and ordinary awareness, including emotional and psychological disturbances, stress and misunderstanding.”

Uranus (uprising, awakening, rebellion, revolution) and Pluto (death and transformation, crisis, power struggles) have been moving closer to an exact square, setting off last years’ Arab spring, Occupy movement and rebellions and standoffs against the powers that be all over the world. The current protests and riots in Quebec are coming to a peak as the Square becomes exact on June 24th.

The last time these two heavy hitters were in square (tense) aspect, they heralded the depression and droughts of 1930’s, and triggered off a long season of revolution and dissent in the 1960’s.  In the late 1870’s, their cross aspects marked the French Revolution.

Today’s Full Moon eclipse is part of a striking combination of cross aspects between planets…  called a Grand Cross. This one is in Mutable signs (changeable)  involving Mars in Virgo opposite Neptune/Chiron in Pisces, both in square to the Sun/Moon opposition.

There is an extreme tension in a Grand Cross, which when combined in a mutable dynamic of change, means we will feel a great pressure between what feels fixed and unmovable and what needs and wants to shift and move.

A Full Moon is itself a polarized energy field between Sun (masculine, ego, will forces) and Moon (feminine, intuitive, feelings) The Eclipse will highlight the need for a balance between our rational ego based thinking, and our intuitive, Yin need to be receptive to feelings.

This yin/yang opposition is even more emphasized now as Gemini rules the logical mind and Sagittarius our higher intuition.

The eclipse in Sagittarius will also  ask us to not let our own beliefs and ideals be a barrier to seeing anothers' point of view.

In the last year we have already had several eclipses on this Sagittarius/Gemini axis, restating again and again the need to listen to a variety of viewpoints, while keeping in mind the big picture.

This Full Moon eclipse, as well as the recent New Moon eclipse prods us to let go of old belief systems and out worn patterns of thinking that are stuck in  old, adversarial paradigms of self vs other.

As Sagittarius rules religion and knowledge, and our deepest soulful striving, it urges us to reconnect to a source which is universal.

Asking the BIG questions like: who am I and why am I here? ,  Sagittarius is always pointing us to our higher self and the innate joy we have at our core.

That joy is being called forth with great splendour on Tuesday as Venus, planet of love and harmony, moves in front of the Sun (in Gemini).

Gemini is all about communication and this rare planetary event has a special message for us.

If we could zoom in on Venus right now, we just might see her waving a beautiful banner of peace, urging us all to remember our true heritage, our true essence.

That essence is love.

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.                 Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
