Chile earthuake, on the Full Moon

Click on the title to see what Eric  Francis writes about the Chile Earthquake and it's connection to the current Full Moon.  Interesting read.

About Moon Phases

There are eight distinct phases of the Moon. Each Moon phase is favorable for some activities and unfavorable for others. It is the Moon phases that farmers the world over have used for centuries in planting seeds at the proper times to increase the yield of their crops. By knowing the phase of the Moon, we can more easily cooperate with the windows of opportunity that are currently open and thus use our time on Earth to its optimum advantage.  (Jan Spiller, Astrodienst)

Moon Phases: Full Moon

When the Moon is full it is because it is exactly opposite the Sun and is perfectly reflecting the Sun's light.  Opposites/oppositions can tell us something about ourselves in relation to others. We all tend to reflect and project aspects of ourselves onto other people to some degree or other. At a Full Moon we can see beyond our selves and suddenly  have access to a larger view of others.

Because things are so magnified, this presents a rare moment when you can (potentially) see yourself objectively. If not, then it will seem like its all the other person.

In this way that the Full Moon phase stirs and amplifies emotion,  partly because when you "see" what is happening, you may become upset if you’re experiencing the "same ole, same ole" -- rather than the things you would like.  Because it's like looking in a mirror, it is not always comfortable.

If the Full Moon phase is a disappointment, on the next New Moon it's time to take creative action in the direction of your dreams. (New Moon = New beginnings)

This Full Moon is in Virgo. Virgo is about detail.  Things have to be perfect.  There could be a tendency to be a bit critical...of self or others. So be careful.  This might be a good time to let many things pass. Virgo also rules Health, so watch out for health issues.  And it governs Work as well...so work issues could come up. You may find yourself  working too much, be more critical at work or feel criticized.  (see how it works?) Use the ability to focus on detail to get important issues dealt with, but go easy...make you sure are rested and taking care of yourself.

As for moi: As a Cancer Sun sign (Cancer is ruled by the Moon) I do find I am quite susceptible to the effects of a Full Moon.  I often get a sense of pressure building up until it passes, then a 'whew' feeling afterward...as its effects dissipate.  My gut instinct with this one is to keep my head down and stay out of trouble.  I will tell you next blog if I succeeded.

Of course planets aspecting the full Moon will add  effects to its impact... the top article goes into some of that. Jupiter conjunct Sun (in same place as) is going to amplify the effects of this moon so emotions will definitely feel pressurized. Watch out for potential triggers.

Because I am so wary of predictive stuff (don't want to create self fulfilling prophecies) I don't always look at whats coming up too closely....I will tend to scan and get a general feel of the lay of the land.  Some Astrologers...such as Eric Francis (quoted above)...are highly skilled at predicting and interpreting world events in relation to transiting planets.  So when something significant happens I will try to post their comments here so you can get a taste of how various Astrologers work.

Happy Full Moon

Everything Changes

Nothing more uncertain than uncertainties;
Fortune is full of fresh variety:
Constant in nothing but inconsistency.

                                    Richard Barnfield,  The Sheperd's Content

"Know Thyself "
                                    oracle at Delphi

One of the reasons I started this blog was/is to create a way for people coming to me for a reading to get a feeling of how I work,  as well as as an introduction to Astrological concepts.  As I have already expressed...most people are exposed to Astrology  through the the daily or weekly  columns in newspapers and magazines, which,  though they are perhaps entertaining,  do not give you an accurate idea of what astrology is about.

(If you go back to the beginning of this blog you can read a bit more on this.)

Astrology  has its own language and mythology which I find interesting and useful to know... and yet can be alienating to those less familiar with the lingo.  Sometimes it can all can get very heady and  conceptual and thejargon itself can be a bit off-putting.  As a Cancerian,  I am very emotionally based, and though I do have Mercury conjunct my Sun (and thus a highly active intellect), I must always come back to feelings and direct experience.

In one to one sessions,  I sometimes also use Chirology; a  form of hand/palm reading; which is more grounded in the physical (see Johhny Fincham Palmistry Website on sidebar).  Seeing the patterns of the  personal chart reflected very clearly in someone's hand can be  very helpful and affirm that I am on the right track.   Astrology allows me to broaden the description of what I may see in the hand...so they work well..hand in hand :)  Having said that, even on its own, Astrology contains within it such a rich and ancient wisdom and insight into human nature that it continually surprises and inspires me to know more.

One big  danger in the application of any  kind of predictive art is the tendency to try to control events through pre-knowledge of the influences coming.  As you can see in my recent  story (see previous article), astrology can indicate specific influences and describe a coming event through transits ( planets in current sky passing key points in chart), yet how and why we respond and react is based on our  own tendencies and attitudes etc. Perhaps prepare is a better word than control as to  how we can use transits. And how we prepare depends on our own makeup.

That is why I prefer to focus on the personal birth chart, which describes the  patterns and tendencies  of our personal psychology.  These are what make us  unique human beings; how we are, how we act, how we interact. Understanding your natal chart will  give you a strong indication of what any current influence might trigger off.

Pluto transits for example, will have more impact for someone with a Scorpio Sun Sign or Scorpio  rising or Moon, or anyone with a strong Pluto  in their chart etc (Pluto is said to 'rule' Scorpio).  Then, if the transiting planet hits specific points (where other planets are placed for example) we can get a more exact idea of how it may impact us (such as the Triple Conjunction on my IC).   I believe self knowledge, and self understanding are keys to personal happiness and effectiveness in life, and the birth chart reading can be a useful method of developing  this.

With Sun in the 9th house and a Sagittarius Moon conjunct ( close to) North Node in my first house,  teaching and learning are key aspects of my own personal expression.   I therefore see this site as a teaching and networking tool, as well as a vehicle for my own personal expression.   Over time there will be more and more information and links to help you develop and deepen your own understanding...if you so wish.  If you like anything here or have any questions please leave a comment.

Change,Expansion Healing

Neptune,Jupiter, Chiron cont'd:

I noticed some time last year that the  conjunction of  Neptune, Jupiter and Chiron was  going to be sitting exactly on my IC. This is the bottom or ROOT of the birth chart and is about the home and belonging. When a planet crosses the IC you can usually expect a move or something affecting your home; the specifics depending on the planets involved. When there are three powerful ones there together you know something big is up.

I have been living in England for quite a few years and have moved about quite a bit. I saw this transit as a positive potential for something coming together, finally, to make me feel more stable and rooted. Jupiter on the IC means good luck, expansion and/or improvement on the home front: (my sister rebuilt and moved into her dream home with a similar transit on her IC the year before me; she had Neptune with Jupiter there as well).  I thought:   "Great...  Neptune means our ideal...my dream home is a little cottage in the Norfolk countryside." (ha)(Neptune also rules fantasies...)

With Chiron added to my own I was well aware of my own vulnerability re finding a stable home; after so many years of traveling it’s all been getting a bit much and  I really have been feeling a strong need to stabilize/ground/root.

Knowing of the potential Blessing associated with the triple conjunction gave me a sense of anticipation, and a hand reading from local palmist Johnny Fincham (who I highly recommend- see sidebar) confirmed that I was going to have a significant move. I did then move into a wonderful place this September, and wondered if that was it?  Yet I kept getting this unsettled feeling: it didn’t feel permanent;  I just couldn’t quite land. And my usual exuberance re England has been very muted; have felt very detached; almost bored. That is highly unusual as I have been totally in love with England…for years and years. Yet I have remained rather distanced all autumn…ever since I returned from the summer in Canada.

Meanwhile, I have been  finishing a Teaching course here in the UK and discovered that I had to re-apply for a Visa extension when I returned. I was misinformed (Neptune) three times by Home office staff and thought for a while that I would not be able to stay. It was very stressful after having just moved and though it did eventually get sorted it increased the feeling of uncertainty that has been growing all year. Yet I just had to stay focused on my teaching and put everything else out of my mind.

Then, I was out with a friend this New Year’s Eve. I knew it was a Full Moon in my own sign and a Blue Moon as well...(twice in one month)  so aware of a heightened sense of...something.  I remember saying I felt some kind of big change was upon me and I didn’t know exactly what it might be. I figured it was about my finally becoming an Art Teacher after all these years… and ..settling down a bit and being rooted in one spot. I had just figured the nice place I was now  in was the blessing.  In my forecast... re Neptune on IC/Root/Home... Robert Hand at Astrodienst (Astro.com)  pointed out that this position means its also opposite the top of the chart…the MC… which governs career. Neptune is about dissolving what seems solid. Here I was working toward my career and he said career stuff would suddenly be disappearing. I remember thinking  “no its not - I am just about to start - it's all coming together...that cant be right....why would it disappear?”  (ha)  And anyway I had this blessing happening so everything would be ok.

Then on January 1st I got an email informing me that I could not get the next Visa I needed. I had previously been told it was ok (Neptune again). Wow.  Total surprise. All my plans just dissolved in that moment: my career here and my home as well.  I am now suddenly heading back to Canada. It is big...  only I didn't understand how big.   It’s taken me all month to get over the shock…one reason I haven’t been back on this blog. I have had so much to think about…amongst other things…plus a whole life here to let go of.

So…a perfect example of how you can never predict the future and even if you can see indications, it will never be exactly as you expected. Having said that, I do believe I have been able to process it all a bit better because I saw(and felt)  that something big was up. I do think that made things easier  because I was prepared on some level. So I am not saying don’t look. Just don’t assume. Anything.

And… BTW… Jupiter’s positive energy has me feeling like it really is a blessing in disguise. In fact, because the triple conjunction is so auspicious I truly  believe its gonna be for the best...despite the shock it has been.   My family on Canada are overjoyed that I am returning home and though I am sad to leave England I am excited to be back closer to them all.

So, just a few examples of how the planets in the sky can be powerful metaphors for the changes and events in our lives. And in our psyches. It's been an intense few months. And with so much going on externally I have spent a lot of time  here on transits (current planets in sky) when actually what I am really interested in is the personal chart and what it tells us about our psychology. I have been responding to current events and as it’s been the transition from one year to next, perhaps that has been appropriate. Yet  perhaps now I can get back to the inner world of the personality.  Stay tuned.

If  you are reading and want to drop me a hello to say so, I would really appreciate knowing who’s out there. If you can’t sort out the comments thingy (try Anonymous if you don’t have a URL…)   just send me an email at aurumastrology@googlemail.com

Namaste

A Blessing. Chiron Neptune Jupiter

Moving right along into 2010.
Well it’s been a while. I hope to eventually have a regular weekly routine for writing this… but routine is not what’s happening in my life right now. Things are a bit topsy - turvy.

Everything works in cycles in the universe…right now there's a cycle of shedding the old to make way for the new; personally and globally. A lot of upheaval happening.

In other words: Saturn and Pluto squared.

To recap briefly: right now Pluto is pushing hard against Saturn… and all things ruled by Saturn are under immense pressure (structures, systems, authority). Saturn’s tendency is to resist change…Pluto (the destroyer) keeps pushing. Hmmmm.

Structures are tumbling, systems are breaking down.

(see Dec 13th and 16th blog articles for more info)

Luckily that isn’t the only thing happening in the sky. There are three other planets hanging out very close together (conjunct) that are bringing blessings and healing. They are Jupiter, Neptune, and Chiron and they can shed some positive healing energy on our weary planet.

An alignment of planets is not merely something specific happening on the exact day; it creates an influence that colours the year following when the Conjunction occurs. The first time they met up was in May 09 and the last was in late Dec...so their energies will be with us all this year. It has been said that these three planets together are bringing a great blessing to us at a time when we sorely need it.

Chiron (ok  not a planet but considered to have some impact as a heavenly body) ... represents our vulnerability; where we feel deeply wounded and exposed or perhaps feel like an outsider. It’s something we may trip over again and again and in so doing learn and grow and become a bit wiser. We then become healers for others in that very area. It’s thus called the Wounded Healer. Deep compassion, deep healing comes from there.

Neptune is the god of the sea and represents  the spiritual or metaphysical aspects of our being. It rules the unconscious; our dreams and fantasies, our creative urges, our desire to merge with another or with the divine; it's a longing to totally to lose ourselves into the ineffable, non-material worlds … those things our ego cannot contain or control.

As Neptune dissolves or blurs the boundaries of whatever it touches, it can bring much disappointment when fantasies fail to become reality. Drug addiction, deceptions and illegal activities are destructive manifestations of this energy and meditation, art and music are positive ones. It also brings deep compassion for others' suffering.

Jupiter is the largest planet and rules our expansive and joyful selves. It broadens us through learning or travel or by connecting to new cultures…(or also through eating!).  Jupiter brings good luck and generosity and amplifies everything it touches...is the guru, the teacher...and in excess can be the know-it-all. In generally Jupiter is seen as benevolent, generous, wise. Put together with Chiron vulnerability and healing of wounds, and Neptune's deep compassion and connection to divine love and something special begins to take place. The sense of blessing begins to take hold.

They sit together right now in Aquarius…the sign of humanity, of the collective. (This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius) So: a blessing for humanity in some form arising out of pain and suffering. Out of a collective wound? Or a personal wound felt by the collective? A call for compassion and generosity (and love) to help alleviate others suffering. Hmmmm.

It seems the Haiti earthquake is a clear expression of both the Pluto Saturn square and this Triple Conjunction. The earth quake and toppled buildings (Pluto, Saturn) and lives have inspired a tremendous outpouring of collective aid and compassion (Jupiter, Neptune) The suffering and vulnerability (Chiron) of this extremely poor nation has inspired a massive effort (Jupiter)and will do so for some time to come. There have been quite a few of these situations requiring global aid in the last few years…and no doubt will be more... yet the presence of these planets together means we can learn something in particular or perhaps develop our awareness on a deeper level.

Maybe the blessing they bring is in our renewed sense of our vulnerability and thus our humanity, as well as the awareness of our collective responsibility to help our fellow human beings. That we are all connected and are responsible for each other and for this planet. This is the Message of the Aquarian Age.   It’s a painful lesson right now to see so much suffering...yet by evoking compassion (Neptune) it starts us moving toward a more unified effort on behalf of others(Aquarius). Yet we can't help others from a place of lack.  It takes generosity  (Jupiter) and Love (Neptune). We need to heal ourselves, heal each other and heal the planet (Chiron). It’s a tall order but Jupiter says we can do it. As within so without. And these planets being together where they are says a quantum shift may be happening and we may be able to take a step closer to that ideal.

One can see, based on this simple yet poignant example, how symbols in astrology can give us insight into both personal and global events. This area of global analysis is not my particular forte as I usually work with individual charts and personality analysis.  Its interesting to see  how the current sky can reflect events in one's personal life.

To understand how the transiting planets affect us individually, we  look to see if they are hitting key positions in our own chart.
